Enzo kept his eyes focused on mine as he resumed rubbing. A shudder ran up my spine. I opened my mouth to tell him we were doing it again but stopped short. The meow and scratching at the door made us turn in that direction. Enzo groaned.

“I’ll let him in.”

“Thanks,” I laughed. “He’s needy.”

“Like you.”

I blinked at Enzo’s retreating back. I didn’t think I was needy, but maybe I was kidding myself. My thoughts turned to Penelope as he ran inside the room and hopped up on Enzo’s bed. He made himself at home, curled up on my chest, and promptly started falling asleep. Enzo glared at him.

“Leave my cat alone. You’re gonna have to share me.”

Enzo growled. “Never.” He climbed into bed anyway and laid beside me. “So, why is he named Penelope?”

I grinned. “When I got him, the person I bought him from was sure he was a girl, and I was a huge fan of Criminal Minds. Penelope was an easy choice. I found out she was actually a boy when I took him in to get fixed and never changed the name. He doesn’t seem to mind.” I yawned, relaxing all over again as I pet Penelope. “He loves me anyway.”

Enzo was so quiet I thought he’d fallen asleep. I glanced over, only to be met with his intense gaze. He left a kiss on my lips.

“What was that for?” I asked.

He shrugged. “I felt like it. Now go to bed.”

Enzo tossed the blanket over Penelope and me before sliding under it himself. He gave Penelope one last glance, sighed, and cuddled up against me. I snickered under my breath. Who knew a man like Enzo Vitale would be jealous of a little old cat?
