My Neighbor, the Assassin

“Yep.”

God, I need more.

He stares at me for a moment, then his eyes narrow.

My lips part, and I can’t stop my head from tilting back, my body burning up.

With his intense gaze locked on my face, his fingers begin to massage my breast, and I let out a moan that echoes over the desert.

Shit.

Looking at his strained features while his weight bears down on top of me, all my logic and values scatter to the four corners of the vast landscape around us.

“Christ, Annie.” The words are nothing more than a growl, then his mouth is on mine.

Rowan’s tongue surges past my lips, and his hips finally begin to move again. I shift my hands to the sides of his jaw as I get swept up by the storm of emotions, desire, and desperate need to connect with him.

I’m in sensory overload as Rowan’s other hand grips my hair while his rough touch works my nipple into a hard bud, and his cock creates deliriously good sensations between my thighs.

This moment is wild and passionate, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It travels like a drug through my system, keeping my mind cloudy as my abdomen clenches and an impending orgasm builds.

Yes.Yes.Yes.

I moan into Rowan’s mouth, and he answers by squeezing my breast harder and moving faster, his big erection creating such heat in my core that it erupts like a volcano through me.

“Fuck,” he growls. “You feel so good beneath me.”

My back arches, and my head presses into the truck bed, my lips forming a silent O as my body convulses. A powerful orgasm hits me so hard, my breaths stall in my throat.

“So fucking beautiful.” With his eyes burning into mine, his muscles lock in place as he climaxes.

The mind-blowing experience and ecstasy carry me to the high heavens. But when it begins to fade, I fall hard and fast, tumbling through the conflicting emotions that return full force.

I become aware of the air bursting over my lips and the last of the pleasure zapping through my body.

Then logic returns.

Facing the fact that even though I’m against everything Rowan stands for, I can’t stop caring about him and I clearly can’t stop the attraction between us, is a bitter pill to swallow.

I stare up at the sky, feeling very confused as the sunrise starts to break through the darkness.

Rowan pushes his body up, and when he moves off me, I continue to lie still, just staring at the stars blinking one second then disappearing the next as dawn creeps through the darkness.

The truck bed dips as Rowan jumps off, and I hear him move, fabric brushing over skin. A moment later, the metal beneath me dips again, and Rowan braces his hands on either side of my shoulders, his face appearing in my line of sight.

His expression is as tender as I’ve ever seen it, and his gentle tone matches. “Are you okay?”

I nod shakily. “Mm hmm.”

My eyes begin to sting, and my throat strains.

His features soften even more, and lying back down next to me, he places his hand on the side of my face and presses a kiss to my temple. “It’s okay. Shh . . .”

I try to find a way to work through the battle between what’s right and wrong that’s waging inside me, but then a sob escapes.

Turning onto my side, I press my face into his chest. His arms wrap around me, and he holds me as if I’m precious, letting me cry until my tear ducts run dry and I leave a wet spot on his hoodie.

Slowly, my breathing returns to normal, and the sobs stop shuddering through me.
