I nod. “Need you both, really.”

“I’ll help too,” Margo insists.

Cole’s already got a mouth full of crumbs.

“We can’t eat first?” he groans, mouth full.

Margo snorts out a laugh and Cole grins wide, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

Great. Everyone’s getting Margo’s attention but me.

“Nope. Think I hear him outside now.”

I head out the back door. The others follow, Margo bringing up the rear.

The sky is still overcast, but it’s stopped raining.

Seth pulls up in the designated spot, hanging out the window.

He grins and waves at me.

“Hey, Gabe!”

I wave back.

His gaze moves right past Marcus and Cole to Margo, and something in his expression changes.

My throat tightens.

“Who’s your friend?”

I swallow hard but Margo walks up closer to the truck, smiling brightly.

“I’m Margo,” she says easily, almost cheerily.

I glance over at Marcus. His mouth turns down at the corners, expression hard. Cole’s lost his ever-present grin.

And I feel like there are bees buzzing under my skin.

“Seth,” he murmurs, and kills the engine. He opens the door and hops down out of the truck, boots hitting the ground with a thud. “I’ll help unload.”

I grit my teeth so hard my jaw aches. Seth never helps unload. Claims he has a bad back.

At his age, I doubt it.

“Since when do you help?” Marcus barks.

He and Cole have helped me unload deliveries before.

Seth glances at him. “Don’t want the lady to hurt herself. They’re heavy.”

As if we were going to let her carry them. Her “help” was going to be purely moral support.

But I don’t say it, and neither do they.

Cole is uncharacteristically silent and stiff as Seth walks close to Margo. Marcus rolls his shoulders forward, and I place a hand on his forearm.

He huffs out a breath but doesn’t step forward.
