My stomach churns.

I kissed her, but I didn’t go further.

Maybe I can’t. Maybe the voice in the back of my head is right.

Maybe Lois was it for me.

But Margo’s ambitious and smart and beautiful. She’s driven and kind.

Any man would be lucky to have her.

Maybe it’ll be Marcus.

Or Cole.

My stomach twists again and I tell myself it’s because I haven’t eaten today.

I could give up. I could back out now, since I’ve fulfilled her wish. I’ve done everything I set out to do. Maybe it’s just a step forward. A baby step.

But I can still feel her lips on mine, her tongue sliding hungrily against mine. My heart races as I make my way back to the kitchen.

The smell of pastries makes my mouth water. I’m praying she lets us eat some of them after we take pictures.

I push through the double doors and Marcus and Cole are glaring at one another.

I glance between them.

“What’d I miss?”

“Cole did something, and he won’t tell me what,” Marcus says flatly, not moving his gaze from the shorter, lankier man.

Cole’s grin is diabolical.

“Did you fulfill her wish?” I ask, throat tight.

Cole shakes his head. “Not yet. Just gave her… a preview.”

“A preview,” Marcus repeats.

“Mhm.”

I roll my shoulders, feeling stiff.

“Where is she?”

“Bathroom,” Cole answers, still grinning.

I wonder if Marcus hates him as much as I do right now.

Margo comes through the double doors, looking fresh-faced, her hair swept back and damp like she’d splashed water on her face.

“Pictures,” she says, and pulls out her phone.

Marcus, Cole and I are silent as we watch her meticulously photograph all of the pastries. Five hundred of them.

I glance over at Cole. He’s not staring at her ass as she bends over, surprisingly. He’s just watching her with a small smile on his face. And Marcus… I don’t think I’ve ever seen his eyes sparkle like that.

My heart drops.
