I grit my teeth as something vile rolls in my stomach. My phone keeps dinging. I glance down the screen.

Cole: What’s she taste like?

Gabe: Like all your best dreams.

Cole: Oh, fuck you, Gabe.

I don’t respond. I don’t want to think about how Gabe knows what she tastes like. Don’t want to think about how he was the first to fulfill her fantasy.

I’d expected Cole to fight me, to try to get to her first. But Gabe?

He’s a fucking snake. Pretending to not be over Lois when all along he was just trying to…

I draw in a deep breath.

No.

I’m letting my jealousy take over reason. Gabe’s not doing this to try and keep me and Cole from Margo.

He’s just moved on.

And I should be happy for him.

It feels like I’m swallowing around gravel. My phone dings again.

Cole: What time are we meeting up?

Gabe: Nine in the morning. She says only nonsense happens before nine.

I snort. Margo’s funny. Beautiful. Sexy. Smart. Ambitious.

Everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman.

But my two best friends want her, too.

And I can see why. She would ground Cole a little. She’d help Gabe learn to love again.

But she’d be everything to me.

If she’d let me.

Nine in the morning. I bet she’ll show up at least thirty minutes early. She’s got one of those Type A personalities.

I’ll be there at eight.

I barely sleep all weekend, and seven o’clock Monday morning comes earlier than I want it to. I take a shower, take my time shaving, dress in a pair of dark jeans and a black t-shirt.

I arrive at Hollow Pine at seven-forty-five. Margo’s car is already there.

A slow smile spreads across my face.

Gabe and Cole have their work cut out for them.

Margo stands behind her car, looking down into the trunk.

I walk up to her and she looks at me.

“You’re early.”
