Del leans forward toward the screen, grinning widely.
“Isn’t it great? You have to be eighteen, of course, but it’s like a matchmaking service.”
“Matchmaking?” I groan. “I don’t want that, Del. I don’t need another boyfriend like Bryan.”
“Who said anything about a boyfriend? This is about s-e-x, Margo,” Del says, spelling out the word.
I blanch. “I just got out of a year-long relationship—”
“And when was the last time you had sex with Bryan?” Hazel points out.
I look at her. “You traitor.”
She laughs. “I can’t deny I’m curious to see if Season’s Greedings really works.”
“If it does, I’m going to try it,” Del announces.
“And if it doesn’t?”
“Then we’re out five hundred bucks,” Hazel says flatly. “But it’s worth it for a chance to cheer you up.”
I soften, leaning my head against Hazel’s shoulder.
“You two really want me to do this?”
“We all do,” Del blurts out and then claps a hand over her mouth.
I frown. “Bryan just broke up with me tonight.”
Del looks sheepish. “We’d talked about trying it. When you texted tonight, we agreed you should go first.”
I gape at her. “What? Why?”
“Because you’re the most buttoned-up of all of us, save Hazel.”
“Hey!” Hazel protests, but Del continues.
“Seriously. How long has it been?”
I bite my lip. “Months.”
“Exactly,” Del points out. “If this works and all your dirty dreams come true, we can all do it. Make it a Sugarplum event!”
She bounces on her heels, always full of energy.
I look over at Hazel. She’s almost always the voice of reason.
She gives me a small smile and shrugs.
“I dunno, Margo. What do you have to lose?”
I think about it for a long moment.
I’ve been in a bad relationship for a year, barely been touched in months, and I’ve had the world’s worst night.
The worst that can happen is that it doesn’t work.
Del pulls out her card. “The others already sent me their shares. We’ve got this.” Before I can argue, she takes the laptop, fills in the payment details, and turns it back toward me.
