She tilts her chin up. “I guess I know which wish you picked.”

I grin. “Do you?”

Margo narrows her eyes at me and I almost fold.

“I’ll find out soon enough.”

I pause, holding her gaze.

“You will.”

Margo quirks an eyebrow. “So I heard a rumor about you.”

“Oh?”

“No,” I say quickly. “Don’t be sorry.”

I let out a breath, pushing thoughts of Lois out of my head and turning around to face her with a smile.

“What about you? Ever come close?”

“To getting married?” She lets out a short laugh. “No. Had a boyfriend for a year, but that…” Her smile fades. “That didn’t go anywhere.”

I frown. “Why not?”

Margo shrugs one shoulder and looks away.

“He wanted someone more… interesting.”

I bark out a laugh and she glares at me.

I raise my hands. “Sorry. Sorry, it’s just… you’re the most interesting person I’ve met in Garland Falls in a long time, Margo Reyes.”

Her brown eyes search my face.
