“That’s the one.”
Hazel whistles under her breath. “I didn’t know he was back on the market.”
I stiffen. “Back on the market?”
“He was married, before, I heard,” she gossips. “I don’t know how it ended, though.”
I frown. There’s no ring on Gabe’s finger. I would have noticed. No tan line, either. Maybe it happened a while ago. I guess it’s really not my business.
This is purely physical, right? I mean, it has to be, given how we met.
“God, I can’t believe it. You really did put all your daddy issues into your wishes, didn’t you?”
“Stop,” I groan.
Hazel giggles. “Well, we should celebrate.”
“No time to celebrate. I’m driving to the vineyard to actually test the kitchen this time.” I pause, smirking. “I’m going to have them all help me.”
“Don’t you have volunteers?”
“They’ll volunteer,” I say confidently. If they want me like they claim they do, they will.
“I’m so excited for you, Margo. You have to tell us everything.”
“You know I will,” I chirp as I pull up at the vineyard. “Talk to you soon.”
I park and make my way to the lobby, still wearing Gabe’s jacket. Before I can open the doors, though, Gabe strides up behind me, opening one for me.
“You got here fast,” I mutter.
“Followed you,” he admits, looking sheepish and dragging a hand across the back of his neck.
I walk through the door.
“Should I find that creepy?”
“In my defense, I live here.”
I think about the delivery. How nervous he’d seemed.
He’d known then.
He leads me back outside and over to the large kitchen.
I barely glimpsed it while they were unloading. Now I walk the whole room in awe, looking at the multiple ovens, multiple burners, equipment I’d love to have in my bakery.
This place is amazing.
I look over at Gabe.
“I’ll need three volunteers.”
“Just three?”
I nod. “You, Cole and Marcus.”
He stares at me for a long moment. Then, he takes a step closer.
