I snort out a laugh. “With the night I’m having, tequila might have been better.”

“Tequila is for going out. Wine is for breakups,” Hazel says matter-of-factly, and a real smile cracks through.

“And Shania Twain is for both,” Del says, pulling up “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” on her phone.

I can’t argue with that.

I head into the kitchen and they follow. I pour three big glasses of wine, probably too full.

Del sips hers. “So, are you going for revenge or…”

I stare at her. “Revenge?”

“You know, revenge. Like sleeping with his best friend.” Her brown eyes light up. “Or maybe his brother.”

For an engineer, she gets remarkably excited about wrecking things.

Hazel barks out a laugh. “He doesn’t have a brother.”

Del frowns. “Oh.”

She sounds almost disappointed.

“The best revenge is living well,” I say, gulping down wine.

Del gives me a sideways glance. “So, are you going to start living well, or?”

Hazel smacks her on the shoulder.

Del yelps dramatically, rubbing the spot Hazel hit.

“I am,” I say, but it sounds weak even to me.

Del scoffs. “Please. Bryan was the boring one, and you spend all your time at the bakery.”

“Give her a break, Del. It’s been a rough night.”

“No,” I say, emboldened by half a glass of wine. It’s a big glass. “She’s right. I do need to get out more.”

Del grins. There’s a mischievous sparkle in her brown eyes.

“I have an idea.”

Hazel groans. “That’s never good.”

“What if I am boring?” I mutter as if Del hadn’t spoken, sipping more wine.

Hazel takes the glass away from me.

“Hey. No moping.”

I pout but Del nods.

“Especially before you hear about Season’s Greedings.”

“Seasons Greetings?”

Del shakes her dark curls. “No. Greedings.”
