He hasn’t gotten out.
I look over at Gabe. “Should we check on Cole?”
Gabe glances over at Cole’s car. “Give him a minute.”
I stand there, bouncing on my heels.
“We need to go to her.”
“I said give him a minute.”
I blow out a breath. Finally, Cole strolls over to us.
“What are you two just standing here for?”
“Margo’s in the greenhouse.”
Cole doesn’t react, jaw clenched tight. “So?”
“So?” Gabe whirls around to face him. “I’m trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, Cole, but you’re being an ass.”
“She’s the one that left,” Cole mumbles, not looking at either of us.
“She’s also the one that’s being targeted!” Gabe bursts out.
Cole doesn’t answer.
“Be a pussy if you want to,” I bark. “I’m going to talk to her.”
I take off toward the greenhouse door, not caring if they follow.
But they do, Gabe first, and after a long moment, Cole.
I push open the doors and Margo paces around at the back of the greenhouse. She freezes as we approach.
I fight the urge to cross my arms over my chest.
“You came,” she breathes.
“Of course we did,” Gabe says.
Cole is uncharacteristically silent.
“I don’t think I can do this. My mother was right. I’m too young.”
I set my jaw, trying to get her to look at me. She won’t.
“It’s okay,” Gabe says softly.
Like fuck it is.
But I take in a deep breath, watch him approach her.
She steps back. Cole hangs by the door like he wants to bolt.
Maybe he will.
But I’m not going anywhere. I can’t.
