“They know.”

“Who knows? What do they know?” I ask, confused.

“Everyone! Someone started a rumor that I was seeing you three and…”

She chokes out a sob.

“Hey. Hey, it’s okay,” Marcus says, getting off the bed but she backs away toward the door.

“No,” she whispers. “No, it’s not. Everyone will think I only got this job because of you three. Everyone will think—”

“Who gives a fuck what people think?” Marcus barks, clearly offended. “It was probably Seth. That asshole wanted in your pants—”

Margo frowns and turns the phone around.

There’s a comment on Sugar & Coal’s social media from someone named gfalls_og2402: she’s only working at the festival because she’s fucking the owner… and two of his friends. Slut.

It already has forty-two likes. One of them is from a woman who buys Margo’s cran-apple muffins every Sunday.

Anger spears through me. “Who is that?”

Margo doesn’t answer me. “I need to… I need to go.”

Marcus frowns deeper. “Go where? The storm—”

“It’s died down,” Gabe says quietly. “She can go if she wants to.”

Panic rises in my throat but I still don’t sit up, not wanting her to know I’m affected. Not wanting any of them to know.

I remember when Belle left. When she stood in the doorway with her keys and I kept talking, like enough words could keep her there.

It hadn’t stopped her. And it won’t stop Margo.

She’s leaving. She saw the real you and she doesn’t want you.

I swallow hard, looking away.

“No, the fuck she can’t—” Marcus starts and Gabe glares at him.

“Marcus. We can’t stop her.”

“I’m sorry,” Margo whispers, trembling. She frantically gets dressed in the clothes Gabe gave her, grabbing her purse and sliding on her shoes at the door. “I just… I need… I need some space.”

“Space?” Marcus’s face goes stony again. “Space from us?”

“From everything. Please, just… take me back to my car.”

Marcus grunts and Gabe’s gone completely silent.

The next thing I know Marcus is striding out the door to go out to the truck, clearly upset, shoulders stiff.

Margo looks at me but I won’t meet her eyes.

“I’m not… I’m not leaving forever.”

“Sure,” I mutter, rolling over onto my side and looking at the wall. “See you around, Margo.”

“Cole—” she starts.
