Nonsense.

Just like the message I received.

Dear Mr. Thomas,

Unless you discovered a way to clone people—and are planning to do so in my case—what you are proposing is entirely unrealistic.

I strongly suggest you review the schedule or have it revised by your assistant. Thoroughly. In its current form, it does not work for me.

Sincerely,

Selene Diaconescu

I read her reply to my email again… and then once more after that.

I still can’t decide whether she’s deliberately testing my patience or this is simply why she is… utterly unreasonable.

My response is short. Clear. Final.

Selene,

This is the only schedule you will receive. And the one you will follow.

I expect constant updates, as previously stated.

Zayn Thomas

If she wants to play games, she’s welcome to try.

I’ve been nothing but direct with her from the start. She accepted the job, and that comes with obligations. There are no alternatives. She follows my requirements.

“Zayn, could you sign this agreement, please?”

Beatrix comes into my office without knocking, as always. She left barely five minutes ago, promising she’d be right back with the documents that needed my signature.

“And these are the contracts for the port you want to acquire with Colt,” she adds, glancing through the stack in her hands as she walks over.

“Leave them on the desk,” I tell her, my attention still fixed on the partnership contract open on my laptop—the one with the company that supplies and services casino equipment.

“Of course,” she sets everything down, then looks at me. “Do you need me for something else?”

It’s already past working hours, but Beatrix has never had a fixed end to her day. Not once has she complained. That’s one of the reasons she’s managed to remain my assistant for so many years.
