“Why?”
“You’ll see,” I tell her, smiling to myself.
“What about my stall?”
A crew member appears just then. “I’ve got it covered.”
Bri stares at me. “Luna, what is going on?”
I shrug. “I honestly don’t know what’s happening, just that we need to go.”
“You don’t?”
“No.”
Saint steps behind her table. “I think, darling…” He gently takes her arm. “That things are about to get very interesting.”
She laughs. “I hate all of you.”
“Shh, now, come along fiery one,” he quips back, steering her out into the crowd.
Ember joins us, and we set off together—Saint, Bri and Ember leading the way, Lennie and I trailing a few steps behind. Bri is asking approximately seventeen questions a minute, and Saint is answering none of them.
"How would I know?" Ember laughs, catching the tail end of whatever Bri's just asked. "I've been right beside you all day."
Grinning, I slip my hand into Lennie's, feeling his fingers close around mine, instinctive and familiar. I’ve no idea what is going on but I have a feeling it’s going to be something rather special.
Chapter 47
Jax
Facing down hostile interviewers and walking red carpets with cameras flashing in my face, is a walk in the park compared to this. Wringing my hands together, I pace another loop in the carpet, trying to stem the unease sitting in my stomach.
“You’re pacing,” Naithan says, lounging on a chair by the stage entrance, his guitar balanced precariously across his lap. “And you’re making me nervous.”
“Shit.” I run a hand through my hair for what must be the hundredth time. This is either a terrible idea or a brilliant one. I check my watch. Then immediately check it again.
Daria watches me from across the room. “You know looking at the time won’t make it arrive faster.”
“I’m aware.”
Raffi guffaws. “You’ve completely lost your mind, Viejo. This is honestly adorable.”
“Don’t,” I retort, pointing at him.
“Oh, he’s got it bad,” he hedges, chuckling to himself.
Daria laughs. “He really has.”
I groan. They’re enjoying my self-appointed torment far too much.
Strumming a chord, Naithan gives me a small, reassuring smile. “Still want to do this?”
I don’t even hesitate. “Yes.”
“Then stop panicking.”
Easy for him to say. He’s not the one about to potentially humiliate himself in front of several thousand people. I glance towards the stage entrance. Please let Ella have managed it. Please let Bri be there. Because if she’s not… Well, then this gets considerably more awkward. I look at Naithan. “You remember the changes?”
