I do not want to kiss her.

I slip my fingers up, gripping her jaw between my fingers and biting down on her lip again. I dig my fingers into her sharp edges, biting down until a metallic taste bites at my tongue.

I’m going to tear her apart.

I growl, and she presses her hands to my chest, trying to push me back. But I grip her jaw harder and fist her dress with my other hand, holding her in place while I take one last bite.

Then it hits me. My nose. That sickeningly sweet smell I can’t take. It invades my sinuses and makes me gag on its sugar.

I pull away, grabbing Morgan by a fistful of hair and holding her back when she tries to follow me. Blood coating her lips.

“I’ve had rough, I can handle this…” She’s trying to convince herself. The vanilla hits me again, and I throw her by her hair down onto the bed.

“Disgusting,” I say under my breath.

Her sweet smell, her sharp edges, the lack of a chase. It’s disgusting.

“Excuse me?”

“This isn’t happening,” I say, turning on my heel towards the door.

“Hey! Where are you going?”

“I’m leaving. There’s only one person who will ever wet my cock, and she’s waiting for me back at camp.”

I’m not sure if it’s the alcohol or if I really am just that much of an asshole, but I don’t wait for a response. I just walk out the door and leave.

I’m going back to Violet.

I’ll run away with her, I’ll hide her, I’ll fucking marry her and confiscate whatever freedom she has left.

Because leaving this girl alone?

Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

Violet

Chapter 7

We walk hand in hand down the moonlit trail, the faint crunch of gravel beneath our feet, and my head on Cain’s shoulder, as I am exhausted at this point. He let me sleep for an hour, folded into him. My head rested heavily on his thigh, my body cradled warm between his legs.

That is my favorite way to sleep, wrapped up in his hold, safe. He’s let me sleep like that once before, at the end of a late rehearsal after everyone else had gone. I didn’t go down that way, but that’s how I woke up. It was the first time in a long time that I didn’t jump-start awake.

It’s probably between three and four AM now, and everyone will be waking in a couple of hours to start the day. I’ll have to do my makeup to mask how tired I am.

“Hey, Violet?” I can’t get enough of his deep, rich voice. It calls to me. I listened to him read for two hours, and he still sounds like my personal poem.

“Mmm?”

“I—”

BANG!

CRACK!

We jump, turning to the flash of light that ignited to our right. A bomb not more than 20 feet away leaves the surrounding debris broken, some scorched, and a little fire. I grip Cain’s hand harder to stifle my trembling one, my eyes wide as I scan the area.

“Cain?” I whisper.
