If You Dare

She joined him, unable to keep from it.

Had she ever had this much fun during sex? Then she thought of the half-dozen orgasms she’d had tonight and decided that no, she had not ever, ever had this much fun.

What a refreshing change of pace. He seemed refreshed, too. Like he’d leaped into a cool lake on a hot summer day.

“Are you always that responsive?” He was still embedded inside her.

“I’m not answering that question.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re fishing for a compliment. You want to know if I come that easily always, or only with you.”

“And?” Something serious crossed his face as he thumbed one of her nipples. “Is it only with me?”

Yes.

She didn’t say it, but she didn’t have to. Next, he grinned in that annoyingly self-assured way he had and said, “Yeah. It’s only with me.”

“You do not have an ego problem.”

“I have another problem. I don’t want to pull out.” But then he did, disconnecting from her so slowly, he took her next breath with him.

He shuffled out of her room and into the hall. She watched his firm ass until it was out of sight.

Now what?

Should she ask him to stay? When she’d slept at his house last weekend, that was because she’d been exhausted and too scared to sleep alone. Tonight was different. There was no reason for him to stay, unless she wanted him to.

She tugged the sheet over her body and wondered why she cared so damn much. Yes, her ex had betrayed her, but she and Marcus were beyond that, and she knew it. Plus, after they’d been caught in the Cameron pantry looking as guilty as a pair of raccoons in a trash bin, she was fairly certain that everyone knew they were officially more than friends.

It wasn’t the sex or the staying over that was the problem. Problems arose with the breakup. The bitterness that followed. Then she’d have to work with him forty hours a week or else quit her job and find another.

Unless…everything between them worked out?

There was a thought. It sent a new kind of fear into her bloodstream—the kind that felt scary and exciting. It opened the door to a future, a shared home, a family, children, pets… Everything.

She didn’t want everything. She couldn’t handle everything. She could handle the sex. She could handle telling a white lie to Joanie and Clive if necessary. But commitment? She wasn’t so hot on commitment anymore.

But if he did stay, they could have snacks. And more sex. Watch TV together. Share a shower. That didn’t sound so bad.

Marcus, bare-assed naked and ridiculously gorgeous, swaggered into her bedroom. A smile parted her lips as she admired the expanse of his chest. Firm pecs tapered down to a six-pack of abs. And lower. His impressive member hung temptingly between two thick, muscular thighs.

When she lifted her gaze to his face, she found his mouth hitched into a sideways smile. His hair was mussed in the pattern of her fingertips. Oh yes, he was staying.

She licked her lips. “I was thinking you could—”

“I should get going,” he said at the same time.

“Oh.” She blinked.

“Long week, you know?”

“Yeah. Totally.”

He didn’t want to stay. She tried not to feel hurt by that. She tugged the sheet higher to hide her naked breasts.

“Uh… Thanks.” His smile was nervous, and his sentiment was…strange.
