I lift my glass, and he shakes his head. “Can you keep your hand somewhere legal until dessert?”

“My hand is legal.”

“Her expression says otherwise.”

Charm takes a slow drink of champagne. “My expression isn’t accepting questions.”

“See?” I slide my hand another inch higher. “She supports the placement.”

Her thighs tighten around my fingers.

Briggs leans forward and tries to look beneath the table. Lyric catches the back of his jacket and drags him upright.

“What?” he asks. “I dropped a fork.”

“You’re holding it.”

“I brought a spare.”

“You’re one movement away from losing an eye.”

“You have become extremely violent over bread.”

“You were trying to look between Charm’s legs.”

“I was investigating Ryan’s hand.”

Charm turns toward him. “You already saw enough during the scavenger hunt.”

Briggs points his fork at her. “That image damaged my innocence.”

“Your innocence died before any of us met you,” Rider says.

“It was recovering.”

“Not successfully.”

Laughter moves around the table while my thumb presses into the inside of Charm’s thigh through her slacks. She lowers one hand beneath the cloth and catches my wrist.

“You’re becoming distracting,” she says near my ear.

“That’s the goal.”

“Dinner is being served.”

“I can multitask.”

“You spilled wine during the salad.”

“You moved.”

“Your hand was trying to climb inside my slacks.”

“Still is.”

She turns her head enough for her lips to brush my jaw. “Keep it there and behave.”

“That’s contradictory.”
