“Oh, I have to take them through to my kitchen. It helps the videos go a little faster if I don’t have to keep pausing to run back here.” She put the last items in the bag. “Would you like to see my studio?” she asked.
“Damn right I would.”
She gave a little chuckle, and they stepped out the back door across to the garage building. She pulled out her keys, unlocked the door, and they stepped inside Betty’s studio. It was super clean, and the cameras were set up, and there were several screens where she could clearly see what was being filmed. Some were in front of her, others positioned high, to watch her hands. Then, of course, it was a kitchen setup, complete with fridge, freezer, and cupboards. Out of sight was a shelving unit for all the products she would need.
“This is everything,” she said.
He took the bags from her, allowing her to empty everything and get set up.
“What do you think?” she asked.
“It’s ... a lot,” he said.
“Yeah, Aunt Martha wanted me to try this out. I tried to get my book published, but no one wanted it, and this was her suggestion. Of course, it meant moving in, which I was more than happy to do. I love Rivermont Ridge.”
“You know, I can’t recall ever seeing you around.”
She had on this sad smile. “I’ve been around. I saw you around.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, but you were with a different girl every time I saw you.”
Grim gritted his teeth. He tried to wrack his brain for the first time he’d seen Betty. She stood out to him, and yet there was nothing.
“It must have been some time ago,” he said.
“At least a year. That’s when I was ... taken.”
Grim didn’t ask her to elaborate. There was no need. He already knew what happened, and he wasn’t going to keep bringing up bad memories.
“Do you think I’ll get to watch you one day?” he asked.
“You’d want to do that?”
“Hell, yeah, that would be a lot of fun.”
Betty smiled. “You don’t have anything more important to do?”
“Not until the club calls me, and besides, I could be your taste tester.” He winked at her. He put his hands on his stomach. “I’m a man that likes to eat.”
She nodded. “Okay, I can feed you.”
She put her hands on her hips, and just as she was about to open her mouth to say something, his fucking cell phone rang. He looked at her, and Betty smiled at him.
“I guess I can feed you another time.”
“How about tonight?” he asked. “I can take care of this, and tonight, I will be back.”
“Of course.”
He winked at her, stepped out of her kitchen, and answered the call.
“What?” he asked, not caring that it was Doc.
“Is that any way to speak to your prez?” Doc asked.
“You’re calling, so that means something is up.” They had taken care of all the danger and threat to Rivermont Ridge. They kept a tight ship. There was no chance of anyone starting any shit.
