It’s not unusual. Jodie knew that.
Still, she hoped tomorrow someone would spot Luna and send her a report.
Back at the hotel after dinner, Jodie dropped onto the end of the bed and started listing tomorrow out loud.
“Stakes in the morning, call Arden about the darting, ask Hank about that pull-through—”
Mac crouched in front of her and untied her boots.
She grinned at him. “What are you doing? I can get them.”
“I know.” He pulled one off, then the other, and set them aside. “Lie back.”
Her breath went out of her. “I’m filthy.”
“That’s what I’m hoping.”
“No, literally, I’m—”
“Jodie.” He looked up at her, hands massaging her calves. “Lie back.”
She lay back.
He ran his hands up her legs to the waist of her jeans.
“Now lift your derriere.”
“You mean my ass?” Jodie couldn’t help it. They’d been together for weeks and not once had she gotten him to swear in front of her, not even when he hit his thumb with a hammer—though ten minutes later, not knowing she was on the other side of the barn, he swore a blue streak.
“I mean your cute-as-heck tush.”
“Whoa. How dare you say heck in front of me?”
He gave her a glare that made her giggle, then worked her jeans down her hips and off, and she had a half second to think about the dust and the long day before his mouth was on the inside of her knee. He took his time getting anywhere, and by the time he’d worked his way up the inside of her thigh, she had stopped thinking about tomorrow entirely.
He hooked her legs over his shoulders. “Okay?”
“Yes. Yes, okay, very—”
His tongue found her folds, and whatever she’d been about to say turned into a sound she didn’t recognize.
Mac had a way of paying attention to her every movement, every sigh, that should have been illegal. When she lifted her hips to press against him, he pressed back, his tongue darting inside her. When she went still, he slowed until she squirmed and begged for more. Jodie’s hands found his hair and held on, and the only word left in her head was his name.
“Mac—”
“You taste so good, baby,” he said between licks. “Now, let go for me.” He hummed against her, and that was all it took. She dug her heels into his shoulders and ran her hands through his hair.
When she could see straight again, Mac rested his cheek against her thigh.
“You were saying something about Hank’s pull-through—”
Jodie swatted him as she laughed weakly and dropped an arm over her eyes. “I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Come up here and I’ll give you a pull-through.”
He did, and she kept her word.
