Mine.

“Does that bother you?”

Mine.

“What’s wrong, Cade?” He smiles.

My hand moves to his neck, pushing him against the back of the seat.

“Mine,” I growl.

He doesn’t move.

“There he is,” he says with a smirk.

“Leave me the fuck alone.” I drop my hand.

“Then remember who the fuck you are and quit acting like a little bitch.” He stands up, looking down at me, his eyes darken. “You’re going to get us all killed if you keep acting like a scared child.” He stalks back to his seat.

Fuck him, he’s right. I’m acting like a stubborn, jealous child. But I know damn well he has an interest in the grimoire as well; the last thing I need is another fucking variable to deal with. If it’s with me, I know it’s safe… maybe. As long as I can keep myself from opening it. I just need to summon every ounce of my mental fortitude and keep myself in check. Focus on the present moment, focus on the mission.

Last time you tried to show me Calli, it didn’t work. But you could show him. This isn’t about me. This is about saving my sister and keeping my sanity in the process. Focus on every detail. Go to her, please. Let her know we’re coming.

CHAPTER 32 CALLI

I see Cade rush into my childhood room. “I need to get you out of here. I’m taking this thing off you.”

“I can’t take it off. It’s not safe,” I say, sitting up in my bed.

“You don’t understand; whatever they have told you is a lie.” He pulls out a knife and cuts the leather.

“But I can’t.” I resist but I feel the collar fall. “I’m their sacrifice.”

“What?” His voice is clipped as he stares at me in shock when our father bolts into the room.

“What the hell are you doing!” Father yells.

I feel every nerve in my body vibrate when our mother walks in with a dart gun, shooting Cade in the neck. He quickly drops to the ground and I scream.

“Shut the fuck up, child!” I hear my mother spit out as she looks to our father. “Take him to the circle; he wants proof, we will show him.”

My entire body shakes as I watch Father drag Cade’s unconscious body out of the room. The lamp on my bedside table begins flickering.

“Callisto, you need to calm down.” My mother’s voice is stern.

“You hurt him!” I cry out, the glass on my windows bursting. The sound makes me scream. I cry into my hands, the energy too much for me to handle.

“Snap out of it, Callisto!” The feeling of my mother’s hand sharp against my face forces my eyes open.

Fuck.

A dream.

My eyes are met with the familiar darkness. I must have fallen asleep. I look over to see the only light source in the room.

This fucking red light. It’s all I’ve been looking at for I’m not even sure how long it’s been. It’s all I have in this room and I stare at it. It’s driving me fucking crazy.

I can’t keep track of the time. I’ve barely been sleeping. I’ve been long enough without any food that I can’t even tell if I’m hungry or not anymore.
