“I’m not confused.” He leans down, meeting my eyes. “I know my intentions.” He cocks his head, one of his outgrown golden curls just barely grazing the tops of his eyes.

Despite my anger, his words land. This isn’t exactly the closure that I wanted. But any feelings that I had for him, I forgot them the second Kai came into my life. Jack may not be confused, but I am. He’s acting differently. This doesn’t even seem like him, and for some reason, this version of him is kind of— No. I will not entertain the thought.

“We are friends.” I gesture between us. “I just want us to put whatever weird-ass energy this is behind us.”

“Tell yourself whatever you need to, Cal, but he’ll never know you like I do.” He sits, smiling as he takes a sip from his glass. “But you sure are cute when you go off on your little rants.” His eyes glint—and for a moment, they look… off. The blue of his iris seems lighter than usual, looking almost white. Must be a trick of the light or the fact that I’m clearly wasted.

I hear the front door and footsteps as Kai comes back into the living room. He drops a stack of logs to the floor and places one into the fire.

He looks between us. “What did I miss?”

“Just Calli attempting to assess her feelings.” I can hear Jack’s grin.

Kai raises a brow. “Is that so?”

“I don’t want to talk about it—” My speech is far more slurred than I hoped.

“Oh, wow,” Kai says, taking the bottle from my hands as he shoots me a smile. “You guys have a history, but Jack knows his place, right, Jack?” Kai speaks, hissing through his teeth as he places the whiskey on the coffee table.

I scoff at Kai.

History… the fucker claimed my first for everything. Any happy memories I held before Kai came involve Jack. We have been here in this house for so long, and my head is fucking with me. I want to fix whatever this uncomfortable energy is between us. Something just feels… wrong.

The room begins to spin and I lean my head back on the couch and close my eyes, letting their voices fade into the background as my mind drifts.

“Of course I know my place, Kai,” I hear Jack say from behind me. “It’s right here, in the middle of you two.”

Kai moves behind me and I stand, looking at them. Jack is looking up at Kai smiling. I thought they were friends now— Why are men so confusing?

“Put your dicks away. Weren’t we supposed to be having fun?” I ask, no longer paying attention to their conversation.

Whatever they are saying is drowned out by the music. It thrums in my head and my body begins to move to the beat; Jack and Kai both turn their heads. I can feel their eyes following me. I close my eyes and raise my arms, allowing my body to move freely. I feel heat at my back, I lean into something solid. Hands begin to explore my waist, moving slowly to my stomach. Warm breath caresses the nape of my neck. And a quiet moan escapes my lips as I feel lips on both sides of my neck.

I gasp, letting myself fall into the moment. The hands begin to explore my body, one cupping my breast, the other dipping under the waistband of my sweats; fingers slide over my entrance and begin to play with my clit. I jerk, knees buckling, but I’m held up effortlessly between two bodies.

I feel off-balance as the room spins. I open my eyes to see Kai gripping my chest, kissing my shoulder, and Jack’s face in my neck, his hand in my pants, teasing me in the best way. I move to turn toward them, and they release me as I look up at the two of them. Their hands still on me, Kai reaches out with his free hand, grabbing Jack’s hand and bringing it to his lips as he licks my wetness off him.

“So good.”

“Can I taste?” Jack asks Kai with hungry eyes.

Kai looks down at me, lifting his finger. “Can he?”

I stare, my mouth slightly open, and I nod slowly.

Kai reaches out and grips Jack’s jaw, pulling his face into his; their lips crash together as Jack’s tongue explores Kai’s mouth. My entire body heats, my thighs pressing together as I watch them, mesmerized at the sight.

“Mmm. I want more,” Jack says, his attention back on me.

I look at Kai, biting my lip.

“Do you trust me?” he whispers in a wanting voice.

“Yes,” I breathe.

He pushes me back gently and I land on the couch behind us.

“Lie down,” he demands.
