Echoes in the Dark

I moved my hips forward, trapping his length flush against his abdomen as I ground myself against him, reveling in the smooth heat that set off electricity wherever we touched. Lexington’s hold on my waist tightened, his knuckles white. “Fuck,” he groaned. “You feel so good against me.”

“I wonder how you’d feel in me,” I mumbled, almost to myself.

He shook his head. “We don’t need to if you’re not ready. This? This could sate me for a lifetime.”

God, I was falling harder and harder for this man with each moment I spent with him.

"I want to.” I lifted my hips just enough to clear his stomach, using one hand on his chest for leverage while the other aligned his tip with my entrance. I sank slowly onto his length, a sharp hiss scraping past my teeth. I had already orgasmed twice and thought a third would be impossible, but feeling him stretch me inch by inch was already tipping my raw nerve endings back toward the edge.

“Fuck—fuck.” His chant was a breathless rasp, his fingers digging into the grass as I buried him to the root. I smiled at him and raised myself just an inch before dropping back down with an audible slap.

“Shit,” he groaned, his head falling back. “I’m not going to last long, and I need you to know it’s all your fault for being so fucking incredible. You feel so good, baby.” His words came in fast succession, his eyes glazed over as he spoke. I could tell he was losing his tight grip on control, and I wanted to see him let go.

I began moving up and down along his straining length without hesitation, reveling in the feel of him filling me so completely, the sounds of our slapping bodies a cacophony around us. Lexington started chasing his high, his hips thrusting up into me in tandem, driving deeper than I thought possible and hitting every nerve ending within me. Stars danced across my vision, my heartbeat quickening with each stroke. He was right when he said it would be fast as he came with a guttural roar, his hips still, and I felt his length twitch within me.

But he wasn’t done. Even as he was coming with full force, his thumb found its way to my clit, immediately pressing in small, fervent circles. “One more, baby. I need one more. I need to feel you come around me, squeezing my cock in your hot, wet pussy.”

His words reverberated through my chest as a fresh wave of heat ignited across my body, making my head spin as my breath hitched. I was already balanced on the razor’s edge; the steady strum of his thumb paired with his pulsing length inside me sent me crashing over the brink. My vision blurred to darkness for a split second as my entire body quaked. Wave after wave of friction and pleasure filled every corner of my mind, Lexington using his touch to wring out every last tremor.

“Good girl,” Lexington mused as my orgasm finally waned and my vision returned.

I collapsed onto his chest, out of breath, my entire body spent from exertion and the three back-to-back orgasms Lexington had managed to pull from me. He was just as tired as he lay on the grass, his heart beating quickly in his chest. His hand brushed along my spine, softly caressing my damp skin.

“What’s the likelihood my neighbors just heard that?” he muttered softly.

“Don’t know, don’t care,” I answered honestly with a yawn.

He looked down at me in surprise. “Are you an exhibitionist?” His tone had a teasing lilt as he spoke.

I rolled my eyes at him. “You’re one to talk. I have a feeling you would fuck me anywhere in front of anyone.”

He laughed underneath me, his chest shaking. “If it’s always like this, you best believe I would.”

I let out a soft laugh, too, and rested my head back on his chest, allowing his warmth to wash over me as the cool air began to pierce my skin. We needed to get dressed and go inside. I had a feeling we both needed to wash grass stains off our asses and dirt out of our hair, but I didn’t want to move. I wanted to lie in Lexington’s embrace, under the light of the moon and stars, our naked bodies skin to skin, forever.

“Do you really love me?” I whispered.

He paused his caressing, his hand stilling on the center of my spine. “More than I thought possible.”

“Since when?”

He let out a soft, content sigh. “I’m not really sure. Loving you was like watching the tide come in—gradual, persistent, and entirely undeniable. It took over every part of me before I even realized I was drowning in it. My greatest achievement is somehow convincing you to take a chance on me, Goldie.”

“How much?”

He peeled an eye open and looked down at me. “How much what?”

I smirked, resting my chin on his chest. “How much do you love me?”

He let out a huff of a laugh and reached forward, tucking a short lock of my hair behind my ear. “To the moon and back, baby,” he whispered, his words reverent in their sincerity. “To the edges of the universe and beyond. Until the end of time, and even then my love for you will live on. I have never loved anyone the way I do you, and I never will again.”

Iwas slowly finding my normal—this new normal. It was strange, but in a good way. I still held my breath most days, waiting for the other shoe to drop—for this damned man who took me to find me yet again, to take me away from this new life I had built. I had hoped that it wouldn’t happen, that Darren would find him and it would all finally be over, but I couldn’t believe it. Not until it happened.

Even then, I wondered if the fear would ever go away. The only place I felt safe anymore was in Lexington’s arms, and it wasn’t like I could ask him to leave all responsibility behind just to hold me. Especially because he would probably agree.

I was determined not to let fear rule my life, even if overcoming it took the rest of my days. I wanted my life back, and I wanted to keep building a future. So here I was, back at my desk after months away—and to say I felt out of place was a massive understatement. Drafts for the journal’s upcoming edition lay spread across the wood. Fai had already reviewed them, highlighting sections for me to double-check and leaving notes on how he’d compile the issue himself. It was the exact same thing he’d done when I first took over day-to-day operations years ago. A small smile touched my lips, grateful he was so willing to step in while I found my sea legs again.
