I collapsed back and sighed. “Might as well get this over with. How soon do they need me?”

“They are holding meetings all morning, so as long as you arrive before lunch, you’ll have time to prepare yourself.”

Ash squeezed my ankle. “I’ll make you breakfast.”

Ezra’s gaze lowered to my exposed legs, and his jaw tightened. “It is advisable not to leave them waiting long,” he said in a clipped tone before turning toward the door.

My brow furrowed as I watched him leave. What was that about?

“Don’t mind him.” Ash stood. “He’ll come around.”

I wasn’t sure what he needed to come around to. He never spoke this much around me, so maybe he’d reached his limit. Progress, I guess.

“—seriously still asleep?”

I pulled the covers up over my shoulder as heavy footfalls drew closer, only for someone to yank them off me.

“What the fuck?” I glared at Cyn and reached for the covers, but he held on tight. “Get out.”

“No. I’m not going to deal with the council’s shit if you don’t show up.”

“Ezra told me I had time.”

“And that was an hour ago.” He dropped the covers at the foot of the bed. “Get up.”

“Get out.” I grabbed the pillow next to me, chucked it at his head, then snatched the covers and pulled them over my legs.

“What the fuck?”

“I’m not getting up until you get out.”

His natural scowl deepened. “Stop acting like a brat.”

“I’m not. I’m just not getting up dressed like this with you in here.”

Was I being petty? Yes.

Did I care? No.

He was still on my shitlist for stealing Mom’s necklace.

“I’ve seen you naked before.”

“No, you haven’t.”

“What are you talking about?”

“It was dark.”

Sure, we’d had sex, but it’d been in the middle of the night. I wasn’t sure I liked the idea of him seeing me half-naked in the light. Not after he didn’t bother to look at me before. Even if what we’d done meant nothing, he didn’t have to disrespect me like that.

“Whatever.” He glanced down at the covers. “If I leave, you’ll go back to sleep. Zeke asked me to make sure you got up and made it to your meeting, so I’m doing that. Get up.”

“For crying out loud!” I threw the covers back, slid to the edge of the bed, and stood. I held out my arms. “Happy? I’m up. Now get out.”

His eyes dropped to Zeke’s T-shirt.

“I didn’t have my clothes yet.”
