Lukas leaned down into her hair behind her ear, breathing in her scent, then growled low under his breath. She could tell he fought to keep himself together, but she couldn’t bring herself to help him. She was too tired.
“I smell him on you… he’s all over you.”
Blaire tensed beneath him, and he growled again.
“I only thought it was because you were in his room, but… I’m starting to think otherwise. Your responses, your heart… tells me another story.”
He buried his nose in her hair, breathing her in once more, before lifting his head to stare down at her again.
“Now tell me, what did you two do?” he asked, his voice eerily calm.
Blaire’s cheeks heated, which sent the anger radiating from Lukas even higher. In the same moment, he jerked her back to face him with a hand on her chin, not enough to hurt, but with force.
“Did you allow him to drink your blood?” he said through clenched teeth.
“Absolutely not! I’m a human! I don’t want anyone drinking my blood.” She shivered. “It’s weird… and the idea honestly scares the shit out of me.”
Lukas took a steadying breath. He calmed when she mentioned fear.
He stared down at her, a look of pain in his eyes. “Did you… did you have sex with him?”
“No… we didn’t,” Blaire whispered.
Lukas gripped the pillow beside her head tightly, his impatience apparent the longer he went without finding the answers he sought. Clearly, he suspected something happened, but she didn’t understand how she gave that away.
“Fuck. Did he touch you in any way, Blaire?”
She pulled her face away from him, unable to look at him any longer. She couldn’t tell him what had happened. They weren’t together, but she still felt guilty. She also didn’t want to get in the middle of their friendship. They’d been friends since they were children.
“We just… he comforted me because I was upset,” she said quietly, figuring that while it wasn’t the whole truth, it was still the truth.
“Oh, really?” Lukas looked at her incredulously. “He just happened to be a shoulder to cry on?”
“Exactly. He put his arm around me and let me cry.”
“Is that all that happened between you two? And why were you upset?” A flicker of concern crossed his face.
Blaire stared at the wall.
Lukas gritted his teeth. “Did he see your body… or did he touch your body?”
“Nothing sexual happened,” she whispered.
“Tell me what the fuck happened then, because I’m getting really tired of this run-around game you’re playing.”
She remained silent, not knowing how to deal with this anymore, just wanting to check out and go somewhere else. He was giving her the third degree the way Caleb did anytime Ricky let him know some guy at the diner had tried to get to know her. This was getting ridiculous.
Lukas put his hand on her chin and pulled her gently to look at him again. He slowly caressed his fingers over her jaw and down the side of her throat, stopping to trace his thumb over the pulse point that beat erratically before pulling his hand away, staring at her lips. He clenched his jaw and then he asked the one question she had hoped he wouldn’t ask.
“Did he kiss you?”
Blaire’s eyes widened for only a fraction of a second, but it was all the confirmation Lukas needed.
He growled and pinned her hands on each side of her head, leaning toward her.
“You said you wouldn’t hurt me,” she reminded him quickly.
Lukas froze, released her hands, and then dragged a hand through his hair, though he didn’t get off her. “And I meant that.”
