“Yeah, me too…”
“But I’m sorry. You’re outta luck. The administration and staff building, where the housing department is located, are both closed for the night.”
Blaire stared at her, dumbfounded, and sighed in frustration. “Well, that’s just peachy. What am I going to do now?”
This night kept getting better and better.
“Well duh. You’re going to stay with me.” Riley smiled brightly. “Actually… let’s go bug my brother.”
Blaire squinted at Riley. “You just want to see Seth.”
Riley looked affronted.
Blaire laughed, her mood lightening. “Sure… I mean, what else can I do?”
Once they reached Aiden’s room, Riley banged on the door and the door swung open. Seth stood in the doorway in a pair of black sweatpants and a white t-shirt.
“Not going to sleep already, are you?” Riley said, pushing her way inside.
Seth stepped back and narrowed his eyes at her. “No… why are you here?”
“Can’t a little sister visit her big brother? Oh. And I brought Blaire.”
Blaire stepped into the room. Aiden jumped up from the bed.
“I thought you were going to bed,” he said quietly.
“Lukas locked her out.”
“What?” Aiden and Seth said in unison, looking at Riley.
Aiden crossed his arms, moving his gaze back to Blaire. “Why did he do that?”
Blaire shrugged. “He’s pissed at me.”
Riley flopped down on the spare bed and began digging through her bag of snacks. “We figured since she couldn’t get a key from the staff building, we’d come hang out with you for a while before going back to my room.”
“Is that so?” Aiden lifted a black brow at Riley. He glanced at Seth, who stood there staring at Riley, and then he chuckled. “Whatever. We were just playing video games, anyway.”
“Awesome. I’ll watch,” Riley said.
Blaire moved to sit on the spare bed, and Riley held a pack of gummy bears out to her. Blaire shook her head. She had lost her appetite.
They sat watching Seth and Aiden battle it out on the flat screen, throwing insults and laughing for an hour before the sound of soft snoring grabbed Blaire’s attention. Riley had fallen asleep next to her on the bed.
Seth looked over and snorted a laugh. “Yeah, I’m tired too.” He stood and stretched. “I’ll catch you later, man.”
Once he left the room, Aiden looked over at Blaire.
“I’ll wake her up and we’ll go.”
Before Blaire could shake Riley awake, Aiden stopped her. “Want to just crash here? You guys can take that bed.”
Blaire already felt like she was inconveniencing Riley. Waking her up and making her go to her room half asleep would just make her feel worse. She nodded.
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
Aiden rubbed the back of his neck. “Want to play some games before I put everything away?”
