Make or Break

“Really?”

“Yeah. I hit Costco on my break and got more of that chicken dip and stuff. Kept it cold in the fridge at Platinum’s. We can veg and watch another episode of Duster.”

“Awesome. Let’s watch it in the bedroom. Do I have time to shower first?”

“Yeah, but be quick. I’m having you as a snack, too.”

I grinned. “You could come with me.”

He shook his head. “No. Showered before I got here. I’ll get the food ready for us.”

I took my shoes off and put them near the door. “My brothers…or maybe just one of my brothers convinced Alexandra, Ivy, and Jasmine to fish around about me seeing someone.”

He widened his eyes at me. “Bet that was fun.”

“No, but from what Alexandra said, Killian picked up on how ticked you were about Duane asking about a Valentine’s Day dress.”

I couldn’t tell if he growled or groaned it was so low.

“Anyway, I set their minds at ease. Jasmine and Alexandra especially know how tricky it is to introduce guys to a biker dad.”

He ran his hand through his hair. “Fuck.”

I chuckled. “The good news tonight is that someone new came to the bar to eat. Bonus, it seems she caught Duane’s eye. He even walked her out to her car.”

His brows arched and he slowly shook his head once. “Hope springs eternal.”

I showered, slathered on some scented lotion, and wandered back to my bed.

While we snacked and watched TV, I couldn’t help but think about the night I met his sister…and how much I knew he’d make a great dad.

“Do you want kids?” I blurted.

Crap.

He paused the show. “Say that again.”

I took a deep breath and looked at him. “I asked if you want kids, but you don’t have to answer…” I trailed off because he moved swiftly - grabbing the tray of food, putting it on the nightstand, and rolling into me. Flat on my back, I stared up at him.

“Why shouldn’t I answer?”

My eyes slid to the side for a second. “Well, I thought it might be a sore subject.”

“Then why’d you bring it up?”

The gleam in his eye was one I couldn’t place. Still, it gave me a jolt of confidence…which might get me in trouble and not the good kind.

“Because when Brandy showed up with her kids, it was very clear to me that you’d make a great dad and I can’t help but wonder why you never—”

“Need a good woman to start a family, Mick.”

I pressed my lips together because that was one-hundred percent accurate. “Then why weren’t you with a good woman?”

He settled more of his weight on me. “Do you want me to answer your first question or the most recent one?”

My eyes wandered.

“Look at me.”
