Make or Break

“I can’t answer that. You’ll have to woman up and ask Tundra yourself because he’s not Block and you’re not me. Is he coming to your place?”

A growly sigh escaped me. “It turns out my brothers check up on me, little did I know. I can’t say anything about it because they only shared that with Tundra. So, he got an apartment a couple weeks ago, and we’ve been there most of the time.”

“This is more than I want to know, but it has to be asked, are you only there for nookie? Is this strictly sex?”

“No,” I said, and it came out far more defensive than I expected. “I mean, no. We’ve been doing breakfast, and I hit the grocery store with him. It’s…”

“It’s what?”

“Great. The best,” I admitted.

“Your secret is safe with me, but I wouldn’t let this stay in the shadows too long either. That’ll make everything far worse. I’d tell you to say hey to your brothers for me, but then they’d want to know why you called. If you need to talk to me, you can call any time. Even if I’m not alone. Though it’s good nobody was with me because I did freak out a little.”

“I’ll say,” I muttered.

“Yeah, well, I didn’t have my favorite niece landing an older, hot biker on my bingo card today.”

I hung up with her and texted Tundra.

Do you like soul food? My best friend London wants to meet you, and she wants it to be public.

The dots did their wave-like dance before I got a response.

I like almost everything, so whatever you want. I’m working nights all week, though.

We’ll chat when you get home.

I decided a brunch situation might work better, and seeing as my brothers were allergic to most side streets, I knew exactly where we could go.

London walked into Famous Sandwich shop decked out in a black pencil skirt, a shimmery fuschia satin blouse, and patent leather black stilettos. The top two buttons of her blouse were open exposing an onyx necklace resting on her smooth brown skin. Almost everyone there turned and looked at her. She strutted toward us while pulling her over-sized Channel sunglasses off her face.

Once she stood next our table, she shot me a small grin. “This is a choice.” She turned her gaze to Tundra and stared. “Build-a-Bear needs to get your measurements so they can craft a cuddly biker teddy bear based on you.”

“You did not just say that,” I said.

Her brown eyes slid to me and back to Tundra. She held her hand out. “I’m London Tamborn.”

He took her hand. “I’m Tundra, and I’m not a teddy bear.”

She dipped her chin. “Of course not, but,” she pointed a manicured fingernail his way. “You better be her bear because she deserves exactly what she wants in life.”

He nodded. “That she does. Do you know what you’re having? Or have you never been here before?”

“I’ve been here. I’ll go place my order.”

Tundra stood. “No, I’m buying. Let me know your order and I’ll be back.”

London’s assessing gaze turned calculating. “Okay, I’m having the double cheeseburger with mayo, seasoned fries not plain. I also order an extra pickle spear. And a large lemonade.”

He nodded and went to the counter, London watched him the entire time.

“Hello, London. It’s nice to see you,” I said, using my foot to nudge the chair across from me toward her.

She sat down. “I don’t like that he’s paying for my food.”

I chuckled. “Why? And what if we’d gone to the swankiest place in town? Would you have had a problem then?”

She shot me an annoyed look. “You know, I’d have had an even bigger problem with that.”
