“That doesn’t surprise me. Set it up and have her out here for a week. See if things have changed with her.”

Chapter 32

That afternoon, my phone rang with a number that looked vaguely familiar.

“What’s wrong?” Mickayla asked.

I glanced up from my phone. “I think this might be Sarah.”

She tipped her head at the phone. “Answer it. I have a feeling she’s stunned by what happened. Maybe even feeling guilty.”

“She should if she told that asshole about me…” I trailed off to hit the green button before the call rolled to voicemail.

“Hello?”

“Ron, it’s Sarah,” she said, sounding subdued.

“Yeah. This isn’t the best time. You need to make it short.”

“I wanted to apologize for everything.”

“Everything?” I asked.

She sighed. “I never should have cheated.”

“No, you shouldn’t have.”

She went quiet.

“Anything else?” I asked.

“I’m sorry for talking to that man. I-, I told him way too much after he told me that woman goes by the name Mick. It threw me.”

I shook my head. “I don’t know why it would.”

“You said you had plans with Mick. I assumed that was a man - one of your MC brothers.”

“Not sure why that matters since it happened after you cheated and I moved out.”

“I’m sorry,” she said.

“You oughta be. Cops said he snapped—”

“I know. This sounds crazy but I wanted to apologize to Mickayla, too.”

“I’ll pass it along,” I said. Not a chance in hell she was talking to my woman.

“Ron - I went there that morning to warn her. He sent me a text saying my problems would be taken care of that morning. That gave me a bad feeling, and I knew she needed to know.”

“Too little, too late.”

“You aren’t making this easy,” she muttered.

“It wasn’t easy carrying my woman out of a camper while she was losin’ blood.”
