“Do you disagree?” he asked.

I tipped my head to the side for a beat. “You forced a lot of issues for your own purposes. I don’t see that as shit working out.”

“Are you not talking to Nickel?”

The fact I made up with my brother wasn’t his business, yet I suspected he knew.

“We’re talking to one another, but what you did was shitty.”

He cocked a brow. “Never claimed to be a good man. I’m selfish and don’t give a fuck what most people think.”

“Right,” I muttered.

His expression turned shrewd. “You aren’t most people, Mick. You’re smart and have your shit together - mostly. The lesson here is to question that contract. The club should have included you or me in the legal meetings. Boilerplate language won’t always work. You gotta be able to see that. Especially as you make this business grow.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, Lark,” I said with a slight chin-lift.

“Are we cool?”

I looked past him to the kitchen and thought about it before focusing on him again. “We’re cooler. You’ve always had a different approach, so I’ll get over it and we’ll be good.”

“Welp,” he said, slapping his hands on his lap before he stood. “I got shit to do and so do you. I’m gonna get moving.”

Tundra came downstairs. “What are you doing here?”

Lark looked at him. “Clearing the air with her.”

Tundra looked at me and back to him. “Don’t give a shit about clearing the air with me?”

Lark shrugged and put the chair back in the dining area. “Did what I did. You still got a problem, get over it because I’m not sorry.”

My man blinked, and I saw a muscle move beneath his beard. “With that attitude, one damn day you will be.”

“Is that a threat?” Lark asked.

“No. It’s an observation that your selfishness is gonna catch up to you.”

Lark dug his keys out of his pocket. “That’s a risk I’m willing to take. Later.”

Tundra followed him to the door, locked it, and then sat next to me on the couch. “Do I need to kick his ass?”

I chuckled. “I hate to disappoint you since I could see you were pissed at him, but no. He explained himself. And as usual, there was a method to his madness and a bigger lesson to learn.”

“Bullshit.”

“You might think so, but it’s how he rolls. If something is done a certain way, he makes it a teachable moment.”

He gently tucked me to his side. “He didn’t need to make an example of you.”

“If it had been Killian, he’d have made an example of him, too. Though, maybe not in church.”

“Don’t give a fuck. He amped shit up and I’m still pissed.”

I looked up at him. “You are?”

He looked down at me. “Yeah.”

“I didn’t know you held grudges.”
