She shook her head. “He didn’t say that. You did.”
Ricochet sighed. “His vote isn’t worth severing communication.”
She scoffed. “You act like it’s easy for me to walk away from my dream, but your MC brother - who supposedly means something to you and Ryan - is the man I love and Ryan’s willing to punish me for it. Fuck that.”
“I’m not the one who voted against you. Don’t get pissed at me,” Ricochet said.
Mickayla shrugged one shoulder - opposite from the side where she was stabbed. “You’re also not the one standing up for what’s right - showing him how he’s wrong. That makes you just as complicit if not worse.”
Ricochet looked over his shoulder at me. “Are they really planning to let her out soon?”
I shrugged. “I wasn’t here when the doc examined her, though he mentioned it when he came in the room.”
“Why do you ask? Are you mad at me?” Mickayla asked.
Ricochet looked back at her. “No. I just wanted to know where you’d be today. What happened to you hit all of us hard.”
Chapter 29
Jagged Pill
Mickayla
The funny thing about growing up with guilt trips was that I could spot one a mile away…and that was what Killian was trying to do, though I suspected he didn’t know it.
I gave his hand a squeeze. “Yeah. I know it hit you hard - and Ryan, too.”
My triplet nodded at me. “So maybe you can find a way to forgive him for his vote.”
That was going to take time, but I kept quiet. From the corner of my eye, I saw Tundra staring at us, and I knew he wanted me to put in a little effort.
For some reason, thoughts of effort made a vision of that camper flash in my mind’s eye.
I focused on Killian. “How did you all find me so fast?”
Tundra scoffed in disbelief. “What do you mean? That asshole stabbed you, we didn’t find you fast enough, wild child.”
I glanced at Tundra and back to Killian, his expression raised my suspicions. “No, but considering I left the clubhouse before church was even done…you all arrived in the nick of time.”
Killian pointed a finger at me. “No references to nicks anytime soon, Mickayla.”
I dropped my head. “That’s fair. Now answer my question.”
My brother wouldn’t meet my eyes for a lengthy moment. Finally he said, “I hated how cagey you were being on New Year’s day. I mentioned it to Colton because he’s got a sister with man problems - anyway, he gave me the idea. Not too long after that, I put a tracking device on your car.”
I tipped my head back. No matter how much I wanted to be pissed, I couldn’t be. If it hadn’t been for that tracker, there’s no way they’d have known where to go or how to find me.
I righted my head as a thought struck me. “That’s how you knew I was swimming.”
My brother looked abashed.
I narrowed my eyes. “Didn’t you see when I was at his townhouse?”
He shook his head. “I didn’t know who lived there. Suppose that makes me slow on the uptake because he mentioned that he’d moved…hell, Duane asked where he moved to and I still didn’t put it together until the second time I went to the pool.”
I nodded. “Not sure if anyone got my car from that property—”
“Nickel took care of it late last night,” Tundra said.
