“Sorry,” he said, hugging Zeb. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just want that fucker to pay for what he did to you.”

Zeb hadn’t even scratched the surface of what Kaden had done. He was only just getting his own head around it and didn’t feel ready to talk to anyone about it yet. Not even Hunter.

“You are going to press charges, aren’t you?”

“I don’t know. I need to get a job and somewhere to live first.”

Hunter burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny about me being jobless and homeless?”

“You’re not either of those things. Why do you think Mason kept paying you?”

“What?”

He hadn’t checked his bank account for weeks. There’d been no reason to. Kaden had insisted on paying for everything. He said he earned more money and that Zeb should save his money for college, which was sweet of him. What the fuck? Why was he referring to him as “sweet” when he was an asshole?

“Mason!” shouted Hunter.

“What are you doing?” he hissed.

“Is everything okay?” asked Mason, a frown on his handsome face.

“Zeb was asking for help in finding a job.”

“He already has one.”

“But I quit,” said Zeb, not reminding anyone he’d stormed out like a teenager.

“I didn’t accept your resignation. You’ve been on paid leave and can come back when you’re ready.”

Zeb got choked up. This man was going to be the death of him.

“He also mentioned finding somewhere to live,” said Hunter. The fucker was grinning.

“You’re staying here as long as you need,” said Mason.

“This place is a bit out of my price range.”

“You’re here as my guest, Zeb.”

“But I need to pay something.”

“No you don’t.”

“That’s all, Mason. You can leave now,” said Hunter.

Mason smiled and shook his head before leaving. Zeb broke down. He’d been doing that a lot lately. Hunter hugged him tightly.

“Why is he doing this?” asked Zeb when he could speak again.

“Because the idiot loves you, and this is his way of showing it.”

“He just feels sorry for me.”

“Okay, then, it’s confirmed.”

“What?”
