“If they’re so wonderful, why are you so against relationships?”
Goldie narrowed her gaze and insisted, “I never want a man to tell me what to do.”
“What about your club president?”
“Clint asks me what I want to do. The man is very skilled at manipulating people into obeying him.”
Grinning up at her, I pressed my lips between her tits. “And hooking up once or twice a month is what you want?”
“I could handle your cock in me twice a month as long as you won’t buckle under so much commitment.”
Goldie’s taunting tone made my dick twitch. She had the power to turn me into a weak, needy man. Not that I revealed this fact to her. Remaining noncommittal to the twice-a-month hookup, I sucked at her nipple and made this sexy woman sigh appreciatively.
As she stroked my head, I took my time enjoying her flesh hardening in my mouth. Goldie’s breathing sped up. I glanced up to find her watching me with a flushed expression. Her eyes glowed with arousal. I had never seen such a beautiful woman in my thirty-five years on this planet.
When my fingers teased her clit, Goldie leaned away from me and crawled off the bed. I frowned until I realized she was grabbing another condom. The smile she wore while returning to bed made me feel like a fucking stud.
More than the fucking, which was somehow greater than any sex I’d ever experienced before, I craved Goldie’s attention.
Over the next six months, I drove to Little Memphis twice a month without fail. Zodiac and the boys thought I was doing my usual traveling. It wasn’t uncommon for me to take a ride somewhere for a day or two.
Besides, Little Memphis was a city where I could often find reasons to visit. Goldie’s people were constantly having parties. Even if I didn’t know the occasion, I’d use their get-togethers as excuses to ride up.
A few times, bad weather nearly caused me to cancel my trips. Sitting in my new house, I’d find myself edgy over missing out on time with Goldie. She had become an obsession. We kept our conversations casual, yet I had learned enough about her to know I would never want any woman more than I did her.
Despite the bad weather, I always got my ass on the road. I’d drive my truck rather than a motorcycle, but I refused to change my plans to see Goldie again.
Since our first night together, Goldie had dyed her hair to her natural shade of brown and let it grow out. Each time we got together, her hair was longer, and she seemed more confident. Despite Goldie’s “no fucks to give” demeanor, she was surprisingly insecure.
Admittedly, I suffered from the same insecurity. I wanted more from Goldie yet kept my mouth shut. We had become friends, texting regularly, mostly checking in, and occasionally complaining about something. She sent a few photos of her dog. I sent a few of mine. At the hotel, we would share a bed but never cuddled. We watched sports and old movies.
Our relationship remained friendly yet detached. Goldie continued to insist she never wanted a relationship beyond sex.
Often, I’d rest in bed at night and wonder if she was too scared to admit her feelings had changed. What if I voiced what she was also feeling?
But what if her feelings hadn’t changed, and voicing my feelings meant losing her?
I was crazy about Goldie. My life wasn’t miserable with our current arrangement. If she cut me off, though, I didn’t know if I could recover. Very few things in life had as much power over me as Goldie did.
So, I kept my mouth shut, always assuming I’d have time to fess up later.
GOLDIE
Early June...

I heard voices long before I finally opened my eyes. At first, I thought the accident had left me blind because I couldn’t see anything. Finally, I realized I was under a blanket.
My wrists were tied in front of me. Even without moving, my right leg felt on fire. My head and neck also throbbed. I felt like if I moved an inch, I would cry out in pain. I didn’t dare even change my breathing and possibly alert the men in the vehicle.
My mind returned to the accident. I had been riding to the Sorority House with the Tooker sisters. The sun had recently set. The road was well lit from the street lights.
I recalled Jaslene’s voice calling out to me before the sound of revving engines. Looking over my shoulder, I was startled by the sight of a large truck slamming into her motorcycle. Dalisay was struck next.
Though I dodged the truck, an SUV rammed into me. Leaning to my right, I tried to steady my motorcycle. The SUV clipped my front wheel as I was regaining control.
Just before I slammed into the ground, I felt something snap in my foot. Pain rushed up my leg. My mind raced with images of my family, friends, and York. Then, everything went dark until I awoke tied up under the blanket.
