York & Goldie

York never shut the door completely when we were together. I didn’t, either. I used to wonder if we were similar enough to work.

Resting in my bed, I looked around my beige room with the framed posters covering the walls. Though I was never interested in overly feminine styles, I wondered whether my tastes were still too girly for York.

I had seen his house back when it was owned by Nova and Exile. Had he changed anything? I couldn’t picture his life away from our hookups.

When York appeared in black boxers. I admired the way his muscled chest and powerful thighs flexed. He stood next to the bed and looked over the setup.

“Should we make a pillow wall to keep me from bumping into you?”

“Sure, but nothing too high,” I said and texted Sabrina to bring extra pillows. “I want to be able to fondle you if I get scared.”

York warned, “No fucking.”

“Well duh, asshole. Do I really look like I could do anything besides whine?”

York grinned at my pissy tone. Sabrina knocked before entering with her arms full of pillows. Bouncy blonde Moe followed her with more pillows.

“I need a protective wall between me and this sexy piece of ass.”

Sabrina rolled her eyes. “You should make him sleep on the floor.”

“But he took time out of his busy Louisiana schedule to find me in the muddy woods.”

After Moe and Sabrina created a wall in the middle of my California king mattress, they looked at York standing in his nearly-naked glory.

“Thank you for helping Goldie save herself,” Sabrina said as Moe nodded. “If you need anything, we’ll come running. We’re one big happy family here.”

Only nodding, York never took the bait with Sabrina, knowing she loved to stir up drama. Once we were alone again, he looked around my room.

“Where’s your closet door?” he asked rather than join me in bed.

As he walked to the small walk-in closet, I explained, “My mom is afraid of monsters in the closet. Growing up, we didn’t have closet doors. We also put nightlights inside. It keeps the monsters away.”

York didn’t react to my words, having accepted that Yarrow possessed a strange worldview.

Finally joining me in bed, York rested on his hands and knees before leaning over the pillow wall to kiss me.

His dark gaze held a sexy warmth. “I’m glad you didn’t die.”

“Me too.”

“You have a pretty little dog,” he said as he covered himself with my burnt orange comforter. “Junior is a skittish animal.”

“He was a pound pup, right?”

“Yeah. He hides in his dog house when dogs in other yards bark.”

Using my remote to turn off the ceiling light, I said, “Mochi is sweet.”

“I’ll make a pillow wall like this when you visit my house.”

After letting the silence linger between us, I finally asked, “Are we dating? Is that what’s happening?”

“Yes. We’re choosing to get mushy and attached.”

“What if we suck at being mushy and attached?”

“Then, we break up. Or we go back to being fuck buddies. I don’t imagine I’ll ever want another woman, so hooking up occasionally might work if dating doesn’t.”
