Standing with Nova in the adjoining kitchen, Boone said, “He’s at our house with Exile and the girls. He’ll be here later.”
Sabrina flashed me a grin. “You slut.”
“York’s super hot,” I replied. “What did you expect me to do?”
“Why hide your understandable lust?” Sabrina asked.
“I wanted to protect a secret part of my life.”
“Well, your secret is out.”
Entering the room, Sabrina’s ginger girlfriend, Xandy, teased, “When’s the wedding?”
“How’s Tricky?” Sabrina asked and hugged Xandy. “Cher said he was doing better, but she tends to be overly optimistic about things.”
As Tricky’s cousin, Xandy had received a lot of grief when she joined the Crimson Guard. Of course, the LM Jokers didn’t accept fox members. If Xandy wanted to ride with a club, she only had one choice.
“He’s alive, but that might change at any moment,” Xandy said as Sabrina and their girlfriend, Moe, hugged her.
My mind flashed to the first time Yarrow realized the three women were in a relationship. She couldn’t wrap her head around the idea of more than two people being together without cheating being involved.
Changing the subject from Tricky to my love life, Sabrina insisted, “If you plan to date York, you should copy Lula and Exile rather than Elle and Zodiac. Meaning, you can’t move to Baton Rouge.”
Xandy walked over and kissed the top of my head. I stroked her jaw. As we consoled each other, Sabrina remained focused on my love life.
“Why not dump this guy?” she suggested. “Bikers make terrible boyfriends.”
Boone and Blackjack frowned at Sabrina, who pretended to be oblivious to their irritation.
“We’ve never been on a date,” I told Sabrina. “Just let me heal up and see what feels right with York.”
Sabrina squatted in front of me. Her dark eyes held such affection as she insisted, “Do not move to Baton Rouge.”
“I’m not moving anywhere.”
“You said you love him,” Yarrow announced, throwing me under the bus in front of a busybody like Sabrina. “Those were your words.”
“York is cranky,” Sabrina declared. “He makes us turn down great music and insists we listen to boring shit like James Taylor.”
I instantly defended him by explaining, “He has tinnitus from when a bomb nearly killed him.”
“That’s how it starts!” Sabrina cried and stood up dramatically. “Men will have completely reasonable excuses in the beginning. Eventually, you’ll become his bang maid. I won’t support that fate for a fox like you.”
“Am I a bang maid?” Yarrow asked Sabrina.
“Yes,” Sabrina said softly. “I’m sorry, but you are.”
While my mom and Sabrina glared at each other, Blackjack took my bowl and brought me a fresh glass of orange juice. My dad glanced at Boone. I felt them about to ask questions.
“I demand more pity!” I hollered, scaring the shit out of everyone. “I was hit by a car and knocked unconscious. Tied up and stuck in the back of an SUV. Listened as two dipshits brainstormed with their parents about how to murder me and dispose of my body. Killed a guy, shot another one, and dragged my injured body through the mud. Oh, and I went through surgery like two hours ago. Show me more sympathy and stop ragging on my boyfriend!”
“Drama queen,” Sabrina muttered before shrugging. “I’m proud of you for kicking ass and riding a large biker’s dick. That’s impressive. You’re a star fox.”
“Thank you,” I mumbled and smiled at my mom. “Did you see York at the hospital?”
Yarrow immediately turned to look at my dad. He nodded and gestured for her not to worry.
“Goldie’s brain got scrambled earlier,” he explained. “As she comes out of the mental fog, we’ll need to repeat things for her.”
