Claiming Aya

Angie puts a hand on Aya’s shoulder. “Go home and rest up.”

“Yes,” Levi agrees, still glaring at me. “Back at House of Zorah.”

I lose my shit. “You take Aya from me and I’ll burn House of Zorah to the ground.” Smoke leaks from my ears. My dragon tries to force my wings out even though they’re still healing. “I don’t give a shit who’s hurt in the process.”

Sam stands. “That is enough, Ezra.”

“Oh no you didn’t just threaten my pack.” Angie steps away from Aya with blue-gold sparks popping off her fingers. “Take this up with Levi alone. Oh… you got me fucked up.”

Jacob grabs Angie around the waist while she strains against him. Over on the bed, Aya facepalms.

“Do it,” Levi warns, “and I’ll find a way to kill you.”

“I got the magic,” Angie snaps as she fights Jacob’s arms. “You don’t have to worry about that.” She kicks at his shins. “You know what? I’m gonna have Aaron come out of the Witching Glen and beat your ass.”

“Angie.” Jacob grunts and drags her back against his chest. “Open another portal. And cast another shield over Levi. We need to get to the border and convince the pod to shift and walk onto land.”

Angie huffs at him and points at me. “You are on my shit list.”

She casts the shield over Levi and does as she’s told. Blue-gold light crackles and swirls in the center of the room.

Levi steps toward it, then stops. “I hope you know what you just did, boy.”

My dragon wants Levi’s blood for calling me “boy,” but I clamp my mouth shut over my canines and don’t take the bait.

“I’m not taking my words back.” I don’t blink. “Take her from me and see what happens.”

Fear spikes sharp in Aya’s scent. “Dad, please,” she begs.

Levi looks at his daughter. I smell his wolf back down before he turns to Sam.

“She’s fine, Levi,” Sam says. “Clear bill of health. Now, go convince the pod to join us. You know they’ll listen to you.”

Levi stares me down a little longer and steps through the portal.

Angie stops at the edge of it. “You’ll see Aaron tonight. I promise you that. And let’s see who’s burning shit now.”

The portal closes behind her. Sam swallows a laugh. I scowl at him. “I know Aaron. He’s one of my best friends.”

“Well, he also has the power to kill you.” Sam sighs. “So let’s hope he comes in peace. Otherwise, we’re going to need a new alpha.”

He turns to Aya with his doctor face on. “You were supposed to be resting, Aya.”

She sits up straighter. “I’m fine—”

“It doesn’t matter how you feel,” he cuts her off. “You have an order to rest. So do it. Before you end up setting Wintermoon up in flames.”

Aya blinks at him, but she nods. When Sam steps out and the latch clicks behind him, my dragon finally has our mate to himself.

She gives me a pouty lip as I walk over to the bed. I peel her wet shirt off and hand her the scrubs. I hate that she smells like lake water instead of herself.

She’s not getting out of this one. I shake my head slow. “Don’t give me that look. My dragon is all over the place right now. You wanted a feral dragon? Now you got him.” I lean in closer. “So you better pray your heat cycle comes before your family shows up so I can claim you. What happens if it doesn’t isn’t my problem.”

“When did you become such an asshole?” She slaps my chest.

I smile and kiss her. She smells mad as hell, but she grabs a fistful of my shirt and kisses me back. Then her scent heats up.

I break the kiss but stay close. “That happened when my dragon caught your scent. The asshole in me solidified when I realized I was in love with you and didn’t need the mate bond.”
