Shielded in the Shadows

With a scream that was some part of his name, I came, bucking and thrashing and sobbing in his embrace, and with a gush of arousal that must have drenched his knot, lower cock, and balls.

Cooing softly so I was soft and pliant in his arms, he slid his knot inside me not with a jerk of his hips but as a gentle glide. He stretched me wide open and held me right there, with his knot halfway in, suspended perfectly between pleasure and pain.

There was another orgasm coiling inside me, softer and sweeter than the explosive one he’d just given me, and I wanted it. I wanted all of him inside me, forever.

“My love,” he crooned in my ear, running his hands all over my body in a possessive kind of worship more heady and intoxicating than a full bottle of Bacoran wine. “My captain. My mate. The gods shaped me to fill you like this.”

With his tingling fingertips, he caressed my pussy, exploring every detail of where I was stretched wide around his knot. I shuddered hard and moaned.

“Tell me how this feels,” he murmured.

“So full,” I wailed, not caring how desperate I sounded because I was desperate. “Gods, it feels so good. Jarrix…”

“Do you want all of my knot?” he asked, as if he didn’t know I did. “Do you want to come again and be filled up until you can’t take one more drop?”

“Yes,” I gasped. “Please. Give me your knot. I want to be filled.”

With a deep groan of satisfaction that rumbled in his chest, he held my hips and slid the rest of the way inside, wrenching a ragged cry out of me. I ground on his knot once…twice…

With a long, ragged growl and gentle thrusts of his hips, Jarrix wrapped me carefully in his arms and came. His releases were bursts of heat that filled me while his lower cock spurted onto the deck below our chair.

My final orgasm was soft and perfect, and left me boneless and gasping in his arms.

As I trembled and panted, Jarrix grabbed the blanket he’d left folded on the co-pilot’s seat and draped it over me, ensuring it was tucked in snugly all around me until only my head remained uncovered.

I was warm and safe in Jarrix’s arms and we were only a few hours from Iosa.

“I love you,” I murmured.

He kissed my temple. “I love you too.”

I blinked sleepily out at the stars while he played with my hair, twirling it around his fingers before letting it slip free. I’d started leaving it loose more and more in the past year, except when I was around Calla’s baby. I adored my nephew, but those little hands and tentacles loved to grab and yank.

A series of flutters and kicks in my belly made me smile. “Here.” I pressed Jarrix’s much-larger hand to my tummy so he could feel them too. “Our children are restless.”

“They’re excited.” Jarrix rested his chin on top of my head. “They know we’re almost home and we plan to stay for a while.”

I chuckled. “You think they know that?”

“Of course.” He rubbed my belly in soothing circles. “They know when their mother is happy and content just as I do. There’s a certain way you feel when we’re headed home. If these little ones are as smart as you, which I’m sure they are, they know.” He nuzzled my hair. “They know we’re ready to meet them.”

“Not yet,” I objected with a laugh. “Two more months, the doctor says. Just because the expansion on our home is done and the nursery is finished doesn’t mean we’re ready. This little duo needs to simmer a bit longer.” I sighed. “Two months of sitting at home listening to the rain, plus however many more months we want to wait before taking courier jobs again. That’s a long time without being out here. I don’t know how we’ll survive it.”

It was Jarrix’s turn to chuckle. His chest vibrated against my back. “You know exactly how we’ll survive it,” he said. “We’ll see Vos and Calla and Dari every day. We’ll all cook and eat together and watch Poe and Zwee eat enni and hiss at every sound in the swamp.” He rubbed my belly again. “And then we’ll have our hands full with our son and daughter. There will be good days, and hard days, but we will face them together as mates. As a family.”

My vision shimmered. I blinked rapidly and used part of the blanket to wipe my eyes. “Damn hormones,” I muttered. “Are you sure you can’t give me something for this so I’m not crying all the time for no reason?”

“My mate, you don’t cry all the time,” he scolded gently. “And it’s certainly not for no reason.”

I sniffled and huffed. He chuckled again and settled me a little closer against his chest.

My gaze drifted from the stars streaking past to the little hologram stand I kept on far left side of the cockpit controls. It was an image of Vos holding Calla in his tentacles with little Dari cradled in her arms. The infant was reaching out toward us with his hands and tiny tentacles because I’d captured the image on my datapad. Calla was looking at her son and laughing and Vos was smiling. He smiled a lot these days. So did Jarrix.

So did I.

Siber’s voice interrupted my wandering thoughts. “Captain Wren, we’ve received a priority signal from a shipping agent on Jakora. They acknowledge that you are on leave, but they’re offering double the standard rate for a direct delivery of Angel Coast Ale to a buyer located in the city of Onat’ras on Fortusia. The buyer, an Ambassador Atlath, is covering the fee. He has requested the agent employ, and I quote, ‘your best and most trustworthy bonded courier.’”

I tilted my head back to meet Jarrix’s dark gaze. “One last job before leave, First Mate To’vok?” I asked, my hands on my blanket-covered belly.
