Grimm's expression goes completely still.

“I'm the man asking why you're speaking disrespectfully to Professor Daniels.”

Wow.

Evangeline straightens immediately.

“I, um...sorry, Professor Daniels.”

Randall looks at Grimm. Grimm simply stares back. Randall averts his gaze.

Smart move.

“Sorry, Professor Daniels,” Randall mumbles.

I blink.

Well, that was easy.

“Thank you.”

I try not to sound as surprised as I feel.

“You both need to go back inside. Now. Report to the side entrance and stay there until Back to School Night is over.”

“Yes, Professor Daniels,” Evangeline says.

Randall nods.

“Yes, Professor.”

They start toward the building.

“Fix your hair,” I call after Evangeline.

Her hands immediately fly to her head.

“And your shirt, Randall.”

He looks down. His face turns bright red.

I bite the inside of my cheek.

They hurry away.

I wait until the door closes behind them. Then I turn toward Grimm.

He's watching me again and I’m not sure why, but it makes something inside me stir with recognition.

“Thank you.”

His brow furrows.

“For what?”
