Maybe.
Allegedly.
I don't know.
I need air. I need five minutes.
I need Dora and Wulfy to stop staring at me from across the ballroom like they know how this movie ends.
Mostly, I need to get away from Grimm before I either kiss him or murder him.
Possibly both.
I turn.
And almost walk straight into Coach Williams.
For fuck's sake.
“Maggie—”
“No.”
He blinks.
“Excuse me?”
Interesting. A month ago, that tone would've made my stomach hurt.
Two weeks ago, I hid in my basement because this man knocked on my door.
Tonight? Tonight, I have absolutely no fucks left to give.
“I said no.”
His gaze flicks past me toward Grimm.
Then back.
His mouth twists.
“So that's what this is? You've been putting me off because you're fucking this guy?”
Wow. And there goes the last fuck.
I step closer.
“You know what, Coach? I have spent months trying to be polite to you.”
His eyebrows shoot up.
“I have made excuses. I have dodged your texts. I've corrected my name about a thousand times. I've told you I'm busy. And tonight I finally told you flat-out that I am not interested.”
“Maggie May—”
“Goddess, don’t you have anything better to do? Go find a scratching post!”
His mouth drops open. Somewhere behind me, somebody chokes. I honestly don't care.
