An Unwanted Western Halloween

“Nope. Not believing this.” Mare shook his head.

“Believe what you want. You got slimed, and that’s the woman Vortex described.”

“At risk of continuously repeating this, but what the hell is happening?” I demanded.

“Riot, that’s the million-dollar answer,” Law remarked. “Come on, let’s head back.”

I sensed eyes drilling into my back as we returned to the clubhouse. Talk about uncomfortable.

“We’re four days to Halloween. With this crowd, can we even run the Halloween parade?” I

worried. All the old ladies were present with Phoe and Emily.

“We’re not cancelling,” Phoe said. “We’ve put too much into this, but we have to increase security and crowd control during it.”

“Makes sense. What other plans do you have?” I asked.

“I think most faded into the background with what’s happening. We need to hide the Halloween candy bags in the maze and make sure it’s off-limits the day before. You definitely put an age limit on admittance for the children’s event?” Phoe checked.

“Yes. Six and above only. All parents have to sign a form before their child enters, too. It’s going to run for the kids until six, and then at seven the adult version opens,” I said.

Phoe nodded. “Then there’s nothing left to do. I did have a few things planned, but you’ve got your hands full.” She looked out the window, disappointed. “Maybe next year.”

Possibly. If we could get to grips with this damn haunting!

How did this happen? Nanci clung to my hand as we ran, yelling while Inglorious and Vortex yelled their heads off. Some freaking help they were. What the hell was it with Nanci’s fascination with clowns carrying chainsaws? The damn bitch! I ought to leave her skinny ass.

I rounded the corner and screamed my head off.

“The corn maze is open,” Nanci declared.

Daisy Duke smiled and scrambled to her feet, dragging Lasher and Oil with her.

“We’re in,” she announced.

Lasher grinned, and I blushed. I guessed where his mind had gone.

Oil turned to Carole. “You up for a laugh?”

“I swear, Oil, if you leave me, I’ll kick your balls into your throat,” Carole threatened. We laughed as Oil winked.

“You gotta catch me first.”

“You ain’t so fast, old man,” Carole retorted.

Daisy-Duke waggled her fingers and dragged the other three out.

Nanci spun and eyed everyone. “Well?”

“I don’t do corn mazes,” Sabre stated.
