Cat

I’m suffering . . . *crying-face emoji*

Lewis

Self-inflicted again? *wine-glass emoji* *woozy-face emoji*

I roll my eyes. Cat really needs to focus on her studies. She’s down in Glasgow to get a degree, and she’s about to sit her finals, for crying out loud!

Another ping. Cat has sent through a photo of herself in a dressing gown. She looks unwell, her eyes and nose red, her normally wavy chestnut hair a riot. The caption reads: I’m not hungover. I’m ill, dickhead.

I take a moment to admire Cat’s brutal takedown of Lewis, then I tap out a message. The thought of her being far away while under the weather unsettles me, threatening to spoil my good mood.

Ally

Shit. You okay, Cat?

Lewis

Whoops! Sorry, baby sis. Sending you a remote hug . . .

Cat

That’s more like it. Not slept all night thanks to a bad cough, and now I have a fever too.

Ally

Do you want one of us to drive down to Glasgow?

Cat

LOL! Chill, Ally! It’s just a cold. All I’m doing is staying in and studying anyway. It’ll go away by itself. Just wanted a bit of lovin’ from my bros!

Ally

You sure?

Cat

Positive! Iona is the best flatmate: she made me soup last night. Everything is under control.

Lewis

That’s good to hear. How is Iona anyway?
