Under Kid’s Protection

Kid had lost his mind. He was well aware of that fact. He’d made a mess at the bar and expected his club to clean it up. His brother’s woman was afraid of him. He’d have to answer for that, but none of the night’s events mattered.

Carrie.

She consumed every thought in his brain. When he was with her, he forgot who he was. Away from her, he wasn’t comfortable in his skin. He’d numbed himself with vodka and tequila, but he couldn’t live like that.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

She furrowed her brow. “Me?”

Who else was he talking to? They were the only ones in the bathroom.

Instead of answering, he continued to hold her gaze, but she was the one keeping him captive. She’d mesmerized him. Without singing a damn word, she was a siren who had entranced him. She possessed a power over him he’d never been able to explain.

“I’m existing,” she declared with confidence as she lifted her chin in defiance.

The wilting flower of a woman was gone. Carrie had come into her own. Over the months he’d spent with her, watching her heal, she’d grown into a confident, powerful warrioress. She made his knees weak and his cock hard as steel.

“What were you going to do with that asshole?” he asked, waving his arm toward the door.

She scoffed and slapped her hands on her hips, shaking her head at him. “Excuse me?”

Why was she acting like this? This wasn’t a goddamn game.

“The wannabe cowboy dickhead.”

“That’s none of your business.”

Kid closed the distance between them in seconds. Lava pumped through his veins. Before he could think better of his actions, he grabbed her by her biceps and slammed her thin frame against his body. He groaned at the moment of impact. She felt divine.

“You are my business,” he reminded her.

“You left,” she murmured in a shaky voice.

“You didn’t stop me,” he whispered.

“Was I supposed to?”

His fingers on one side skittered up her arm, over her shoulders, and to her neck. They tangled into the hair at her nape, which he immediately fisted and yanked her head back, forcing her chin upward.

She whimpered, that sensual sound that had his dick twitching.

Lightning popped along his skin as she slid her hands around his waist. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth, trying to find any semblance of restraint. Instead, he reached around and gripped her ass.

The sound of her breath hitching stroked his cock, and it strained within his jeans. Carrie made it difficult to be a decent human. He craved her on the most carnal level. He’d had her days ago and was desperate for another sample. She had him hooked—fiending for another taste.

“Why do you do this to me?” he asked, resting his forehead against hers.

He rocked his head and his hips back and forth. Grinding his erection against her. Her chest heaved against his as her breathing became more erratic—like his own.

“I’ve never doubted myself the way I do around you,” he admitted. “I don’t deserve you. You should have a good guy. I’m bad for you.”

“You’ve been the best thing that has ever happened to me,” she practically whimpered.

No, she couldn’t believe that. Kid would bring nothing but danger or worse to her door. Her life would be a thousand times better if he could just walk away from her.

“Don’t say shit like that,” he warned.

“Look at me,” Carrie demanded.
