Ballad of the Broken

“You took my sister,” he said with a righteous tilt of his sharp jaw, snapping the sword back into place over my heart.

It shimmered beautifully with Lyra’s magic, and a small thrill shot through me at the thought of the irreversible harm it could cause.

The boy’s golden hair was perfectly combed back from his alabaster skin, and I took in his perfectly shaved face, his overly straightened posture, the tailored fit of his coat, and the polished boots protecting what I assumed to be soft soles that had seen nothing but a pampered life.

My memory clicked. I had seen this Mortal sitting on a throne next to the king at Ascension, and at Lyra’s wedding.

“Ah,” I clicked my tongue. “You’re not just any Mortal boy. You are the prince.”

The brute with auburn hair tied into a knot appeared behind the prince, folding thick arms across his broad, bare chest.

“Solas,” I greeted casually. He was the one who had driven a blade through my thigh for kissing my wife.

Curious.

I wondered if he realised the fury burning behind his eyes had very little to do with loyalty to his commander and more to do with wanting Lyra.

My eyes tracked to the faded soul mark on his hand, worn down and faded in a way only death could cause.

Pity.

Pleasure flared through the bond, and I let out a frustrated sigh, the smirk slipping from my face as my cock twitched in my trousers.

If I didn’t take care of that, I was going to rip their door of its hinges and use whatever hole the Commander was not using until Lyra drenched us both in her sweet fucking cum.

“I promised myself that I wouldn’t damage anything else my wife cares about.” I flicked my hands, letting them ignite with the flames that had been stolen from me. The heat crept up my forearms in a delicious caress, flooding through my veins.

The sword wavered, the prince’s eyes widening until they reflected nothing but my flame and his fear.

Solas placed a hand on the prince’s shoulder, tugging him backwards with his lips pressed together.

“Did you hurt her?” Solas asked, holding my gaze.

“Only in the ways she likes.” I winked at him.

Solas’s lip peeled back from his canines, and he pushed the prince towards the stairs leading to the wheel of the ship. “Leave it,” he muttered with spite. “The Commander said not to harm the bastard.”

Bastard.

He wasn’t wrong.

I let my flames retreat and slipped my hands into my pockets, whistling a carefree tune as I wandered towards the rope ladder swaying from the main mast.

I craned my neck. Against the darkness of the starless sky was a crow’s nest.

My cock pulsed with another wave of heat as the bond flared, carrying her moans to me as if she were spilling them just for me.

I made quick work of the ladder, desperate to be alone. Each rung I climbed carried me farther from prying eyes, farther from questions and threats until the crow's nest welcomed me into its darkness.

Up here, the sea swallowed every sound, the blood moon painted the waves crimson, and no one could see my mask slip.

I scrubbed a hand down my face with a humourless laugh.

I’d gone a thousand years without intimacy, craving her touch, her love. And after finally getting a taste, she was giving it to another male.

“Cruel little wife,” I muttered to myself.

She deserved this moment with him. And I deserved to be alone—
