“Fun.” I shrugged. I didn’t know what he wanted me to say, but I really didn’t want to have this conversation. “Can we please just get back to the book?”
“The book is boring as shit,” he complained. “I don’t even understand it.”
“The guards saw a ghost,” I said. “Then argued about whether or not to tell anyone.”
“Hamlet’s ghost? So he’s already dead when it starts?”
“Old Hamlet’s ghost,” I clarified. “Hamlet’s dad, the king, who died.”
“How did he die?” Trevor asked, looking back down at the book in his hand.
“You don’t get to know that yet.” I rolled my eyes. “You have to keep reading.”
“Are you sure we couldn’t watch one of the movies instead?”
“No. The movies are like the Bible. People put their own spin on the story to make it work for them. You have to come to your own conclusions.”
“Why do you want to be a priest?”
“Jesus fuck!” I threw the book across the room and got to my feet. “I really fucking wish people would stop asking me that. It’s none of your business. It’s no one’s business.”
“Hey, I’m sorry,” he said, jumping up and walking over to rest his hands on my shoulders, his gaze meeting mine. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“What did you think was going to happen here, Trevor?” I asked him, tears burning at my eyes. “Did you think you were going to grab my dick and suddenly I was going to shift my entire life around?”
“No,” he said. “Did I ask you to change anything? It was just a question, Andy. Look, I’m struggling with what happened, too. Which is why I was hoping we could talk about it.”
“Well, I think that’s a dangerous conversation,” I admitted.
“Why?” he pushed. “Because you think talking about it will lead to doing it again?”
“Maybe.”
“Do you want to do it again?”
“Do you?” I honestly didn’t know what I wanted him to say. Because if he said that I was right and he was just experimenting and never wanted to touch me like that again, I was pretty sure my heart would break right in half. Except that was what he needed to tell me. It was what I had to hear from him because we couldn’t do it again. Couldn’t do anything like that again.
I had a future to consider and so did he. This was fucking crazy.
And why wasn’t he saying anything!
“No,” he said finally, reaching up to wipe a tear from my cheek. “No, Andy. I want to do so, so much more.”
Chapter Fourteen
~Andy~
My breath hitched in my chest as I stared at him, watched as he moved closer to me, slid his hand into my hair and held me still as he lowered his face toward mine…then froze with his lips not quite touching mine.
“Tell me to stop,” he whispered, his lower lip brushing against mine as he spoke. “Tell me you don’t want it and I’ll go. But you have to tell me, Princess.”
But I couldn’t say anything. I could barely even think with him so close to me.
“You have to at least breathe,” he teased me.
I forced myself to exhale slowly but it didn’t help. I was still lightheaded and confused about what I wanted.
It was easy to believe that it was just a kiss. That it was nothing compared to what we’d already done together. But standing there, so close to him, I knew that this was so much more intimate. This was a step that I’d never recover from. If he kissed me, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stop myself from agreeing to anything.
