“Huh,” I mumble, but I think she knows something.
“Are you going to move in here?” she asks.
“We haven’t decided anything.” I rinse off the plates and load the machine. “I would be happy here.”
“Savy loves her home,” she states in between bites.
“I know. I wouldn’t take her away from what she loves.”
“Good answer.” She pauses. “Where’s your family?”
“Gone.” I clear my throat. “Rome and his parents are my family.”
“And Savy,” she whispers.
“Savy is more than family,” I say firmly.
“You say all the right things.”
“Not always. I don’t like many people, and have withdrawn from much of society. I haven’t always trusted my spells, and I still struggle with them. I'm far from perfect, but I’ll try for her.” I finish the dishes and grab a towel to wipe the counter.
“I still haven’t found a perfect man,” she sings, pushing away her plate. “But no one is. We do the best we can. I like you.”
“I’m glad.” I pick up her dish.
“What’s not to like?” Savy leaves the bedroom.
Her long skirt flows as she walks, and her sleeveless shirt shows off her toned arms and tattoos. I prefer her naked, but my second favorite is just a shirt and panties. She left her hair down, and it falls in waves down her back.
“You’re biased,” Gwen snorts.
“Damn right.” Savy looks at the plate in my hand, then at her Granny. “You ate the food he made. I bet you enjoyed that.” She stops beside Gwen, glaring.
“I enjoyed every bite.” She leans toward Savy. “You found a man who will take care of you as you deserve.”
“We’ll take care of each other.” She smiles at me, and I soak up her light. “Is there a reason for your morning visit?” she asks, and looks at Gwen.
“Can’t I stop by?” she gasps.
“Yes. You wanted to check out Archer, but there's something else,” she says.
I’m glad it’s not just me sensing her ulterior motives.
“You just met Archer,” Gwen states.
“Yes,” Savy says slowly.
“I was thinking…” She stands straight. “Why don’t you let me take care of Griffon? You two could go off somewhere together. You’ve barely had time to get to know each other. All this bad shit is headed your way, and that’s not how you want to start a bond.”
I look at Savy and wait for her response. I know my answer, but it doesn’t feel right for me to state my opinion yet.
“Why would I leave you to deal with it alone?” She frowns. “What about Aria?”
“That's right, she's coming,” Gwen mumbles, rolling her lips.
“I would never leave town when an unknown warlock is coming. What about our friends? Archer’s family? Granny, what’s going on?” she demands, crossing her arms.
“I want you safe,” Gwen says, squeezing Savy’s folded arm. “You’ve been through enough. Is it wrong to want some good for you?”
