“The fuck that mean?” I asked, not caring that Xander leaned closer to the table, ready to come for me.
“The orange is your flame recognizing hers. The blue is the calm she brings and black is your desire to protect Uri. You don’t mean my cousin any harm.”
I relaxed some. “Nah, I don’t.”
“Then they’re good, right?” Hale asked.
“I don’t know that for sure.”
“But we could be?”
“Why do you want a witch? I thought y’all didn’t get down like that. That’s Toy’s family.” Xander’s brows pinched.
“I thought shifters didn’t get down like that either, but she’s your wife.” I returned his glare. Hale chuckled next to me and Toyin leaned into her shifter.
“Baby, he’s your friend. You know him.”
“What I know is if he fucks with Uri, we’re gonna have problems.”
“I told you, it’s not like that. You have my word.” I extended a hand across the table, not giving a damn whether he approved of the idea of me with Uri. She was mine. The need was too strong to deny. Xander and his brothers were cool. We never had issues, but getting in the way of something I wanted would create some.
After a brief pause, he relented and accepted my hand. We shook, sealing his acceptance. I was offering my word to handle Uri with care and he was trusting me to stand by it.
“I know you said there’s no way to know, but isn’t there a way to test the theory?”
“Not really. It would take an emotionally charged situation. If you can both maintain control in your most vulnerable state, then you should be fine, but you can’t really test that. It just has to happen.”
“So they both have to be pissed off to see if they blow some shit up?” Hale asked.
“Pretty much, but you can’t risk the fallout, so please don’t piss her off.” She narrowed her eyes my way and I grinned.
“No promises with that. I just need to figure this out, but no matter what, I got her. She’s good with me.”
“She better be,” Xander warned and I smirked, tossing my chin, acknowledging that I heard him. That was about all he could get right now.
I asked Toyin to give me time to think about what I wanted to do before she talked to Uri. I didn’t want her cousin to freak the hell out about all that fire with fire shit. My pretty little danger was already on the fence with how she felt about me. Either way I made my decision about Uri, I just had to get her on the same page. I had the perfect idea on how to make that happen.
Chapter
Seven
It had been hours since I reversed the boundary spell and still nothing from Kyron. I should have been happy from his absence but my fool ass was pouting. Like literally pouting.
You could call him to you.
I could. One simple spell would bring him to my door but that defeated the purpose of demanding and wanting distance. It also proved to myself, and more importantly to him, that I wanted him around. Wanting him around meant accepting that this vampire feeding from me was a choice and not happening by force.
I groaned under my breath and finished cashing out the drawer so I could close the shop. It was ten minutes before closing, and as busy as the earlier part of the day had been, the past few hours were incredibly slow. I didn’t expect to have any more customers, but to my surprise, the door opened bringing a smile to my face.
“Hey, you. You’re back.”
She nodded sheepishly, heading right to me stopping on the other side of the counter.
“You alone today?” I glanced past Leigh’s shoulder and she dropped her eyes briefly, offering a soft jerk of her head before she spoke.
“I did what you said.”
“Yeah, what’s that?”
