Reckless Obsession

“What the fuck are you doing?” Jake demands.

His voice is unsteady around the edges.

I lift one brow.

“What the fuck does it look like I’m doing?”

“You kidnapped me.”

“Mm.” I lean back in the chair, crossing one ankle over my knee. “Technically, I had people collect you. ‘Kidnapping’ sounds so dramatic.”

His eyes narrow.

“So you sent those fuckers after me?”

“Yes.” I let the words settle between us, light and casual. “I would have come in person, but I was busy with important things. You know. Existing. Breathing. Trying not to think about how much you have irritated me.”

Jake scoffs, but it is thin.

“You’re insane. So you have me here for what?” he snaps. “Because you hate that Tristan is with me? Is that it? You hate that we wake up in the same bed and play house like a real couple, while you’re left outside, looking in?”

For a beat, I just stare at him.

Then I laugh.

It starts low in my chest and turns into something sharp enough that even Jake’s expression falters.

“You and Tristan do not act like a couple.”

His face hardens. “You don’t know anything about us.”

“I know more than you think.” I lean forward, resting my forearms on my thighs. “Tristan would rather die than sleep in the same room as you. He doesn’t even let you into the apartment you two once shared.”

Jake’s lips part.

I watch the color start to rise in his face.

“Shut up.”

“Oh, that was a nerve.” I smile without warmth. “Interesting.”

Jake jerks against the restraints. The chair bolts rattle against the concrete.

“Tristan loves me,” he spits. The words come out too quickly and too desperate. “He was in love with me before he even knew your name. I was his first love. I am the person he came back to because he cannot move on from me. He couldn’t move on from what we had, no matter how hard he tried to replace me with a spoiled, psychotic mob prince like you!”

There it is. The fantasy he’s built a home inside. I study him for a moment, almost curious. It must be exhausting, loving someone who’s already left you and calling it devotion.

“Is that what he told you?” I whisper, my eyes glittering with vicious amusement. “Funny. If he’s so hopelessly in love with you, why was he gripping my hips and groaning about how much he’d missed me while I was riding his huge cock just a few nights ago?”

His jaw drops, his eyes going wide and glassy with sheer, unadulterated disbelief.

“No,” he grits out, shaking his head frantically. “No, you’re lying. Tristan wouldn’t dare. He wouldn’t dare go back to you! He wouldn’t dare fuck you, not when—”

The words choke off in his throat and his mouth snaps shut.

The amusement on my face vanishes instantly, replaced by an indifferent stillness. I lean in closer, tilting my head as my brows pull together.

“Not when what, Jake?”
