“How can you be sure?”
“Because James showed me the five boxes before he gave them to you.”
Keating’s radio crackles.
“Commander, the interview room is secure.”
Marquez moves toward the door. “We’ll continue this after I speak with Bell.”
She activates the tablet before she leaves.
The screen divides into four security feeds.
One shows a narrow interview room. Marcus Bell sits at a metal table with his hands cuffed in front of him. Blood stains the collar of his shirt, and a bruise darkens the side of his face.
Willow folds her arms. “That’s where the skillet hit him.”
“You broke his nose,” Ward says.
“I was aiming for his head.”
“I’m impressed.”
“You shouldn’t encourage her,” Storm tells him.
Ward glances at Ben. “I’m not foolish enough to discourage her.”
The door opens on the screen.
Marquez enters with another federal agent and sits across from Marcus.
He smiles when he sees her.
“Where’s Daniel?”
“In federal custody,” Marquez replies.
“He won’t tell you anything.”
“I’m not asking him. I’m asking you.”
Marcus leans back. “I want a lawyer.”
“Then the interview is over.”
Marquez begins gathering her files.
Marcus’s smile slips.
“You aren’t going to ask about the photograph?”
“You requested counsel.”
“I changed my mind.”
“You can’t change your mind after asking for a lawyer,” Keating says from behind us. “She’s ending the interview.”
“But he wants to talk,” I say.
