Caspian: The Not So Friendly Ghost

I moved closer. “Come sit beside me.”
Kaidence hopped onto the couch, and Caspian carefully helped settle his sister across his lap while I supported her head. Kaidence immediately became serious, holding himself unnaturally still because we had warned him approximately a thousand times about being careful.
“Hey, baby.”
Her tiny hand moved and brushed against his shirt.
Kaidence gasped. “Mommy! She touched me!”
“I saw.”
Caspian grinned. “She knows who her big brother is.”
Kaidence’s chest puffed with pride. “I’m gonna teach her my game when she gets big, and basketball.”
“That’s what’s up,” Caspian told him.
“And both of y’all are going to teach her how to put toys back where they belong,” I added.
Kaidence immediately focused on his sister. “Mommy always saying that.”
“Because you always leave your stuff everywhere.”
Caspian leaned back comfortably. “Don’t drag me into this.”
I turned toward him. “Excuse me?”
“I can snap my fingers and clean a whole house within a matter of seconds. I don’t have a toy problem.”
Kaidence started laughing. “Must be nice having supernatural housekeeping powers.”
“It is, actually.”
I shook my head and carefully took the baby from Kaidence. “Go get your game ready before your daddy finds another excuse.”
Kaidence hopped off the couch. “Daddy, don’t forget!”
“I won’t.”
He took off toward the staircase.
“Walking!” I called.
His footsteps immediately slowed.
Caspian reached for Cassiane, and I carefully settled her against his chest before getting to my feet.
Caspian chuckled. “That boy.”
“Your son.”
“Our son,” he corrected with a smile. His attention dropped toward Cassiane again. “And our little princess.”
“Who has been crying all damn day, by the way,” I let him know.
Caspian laughed. “She’s a baby.”
“I am aware of what she is, but me and her have had several conversations about how screaming at me while I’m actively fixing the problem is unnecessary.”
