Kaidence finally abandoned his post at the window and climbed onto the couch beside me.

He leaned closer to his sister, studying her with the serious expression he always wore whenever he inspected the baby.

“Hey, baby sister. I’m glad she’s woke. She’s always sleeping.”

I chuckled. “Kaidence, she’s one week old. She doesn’t exactly have a packed schedule.”

He carefully touched one of her tiny fingers. “She’s cute, though. She looks like Daddy.”

“Which means she looks like you too, because you got your daddy’s whole face.”

“I don’t,” he disagreed.

“Yes, you do.”

“No, ma’am.”

I shook my head.

There was no point arguing with that son of mine. Kaidence had inherited far too much of Caspian’s confidence to ever admit I was right when he had already decided otherwise… and apparently his sister was starting early.

Willow was still Willow.

There was no supernatural event powerful enough to change that woman. And surprisingly, her Halloween husband had survived beyond midnight.

Frankenstein’s real name was Terrence.

Turns out there had been a very handsome man underneath all that green makeup and neck hardware, and he actually did own a construction company. More importantly, he had enough patience to date my sister without losing his mind.

They had been together ever since the party, and any time they argued, Willow immediately tried recruiting Caspian.

“Brother-in-law, turn this nigga into a candle for a few hours. I wanna blow his ass out when he starts getting on my nerves.”

Caspian would barely lift his attention from whatever he was doing. “Willow, leave that man alone.”

“Tell him to stop pissing me off!”

“Talk to yo’ fucking boyfriend.”

“You’re supposed to be on my side!”

That was usually when I removed myself from the conversation.

Terrence eventually learned about Caspian by accident. He came over one evening, walked into the kitchen, and found a man he knew was supposed to be dead standing at the refrigerator drinking juice.

According to Willow, the two of them stood there staring at each other for a good ten seconds before Terrence finally managed to speak.

“Baby…”

Willow had casually answered, “Oh, yeah. That’s Caspian.”

Terrence turned back toward him. “The Caspian?”

Caspian nodded. “What’s up, my nigga?”

Terrence sat down.

Willow laughed about that for three days.
