by Alecia J.

I tried again, harder this time, but there was nothing to grab. My arm passed straight through his body like he wasn’t there… or like I wasn’t.

The anger that hit me was worse than the bullets.

When Chalis and the others finally started making their way out of the house, I went after them anyway, too furious to care that my body was still lying behind me.

I followed them outside, determined to stay on Chalis’s ass and find out where the fuck he was going next. But the moment I reached the front gate, something yanked me backward with enough force to send me straight toward the mansion.

I tried again, and the same thing happened.

I pushed harder the next time, and whatever invisible force held me there pulled me back even harder.

Eventually, I finally understood that my life was gone, but somehow I was still there.

I was trapped inside the house that was supposed to hold my whole fucking future while the mothafucka who killed me walked around somewhere, living his life like nothing had happened.

I had never felt rage like that before, not even when I was alive. If I could have gotten my hands on Chalis in that moment, there wouldn’t have been enough of that nigga left for anybody to identify. Death hadn’t calmed shit in me. If anything, being unable to touch him had made the need to kill him worse.

I remembered everything about that night.

Every word.

Every face.

Every mothafucka who stood there and watched me die.

Most of all, I remembered Chalis looking down at me like he had won.

That was the part that stayed with me more than anything because he hadn’t won shit. The dumb mothafucka had no idea what he had actually created.

He just didn’t know it yet.

“Caspian?”

I blinked and found Miss Veda standing in front of me.

For a second, I had to remind myself where I was.

My bedroom.

Present Day.

I exhaled. “Yeah?”

She studied my face. “You went back there, didn’t you?”

I looked away. “Yeah.”

Miss Veda nodded slowly, and for a moment, neither one of us said anything. “You know what happened that night can’t be undone. And you know getting your revenge won’t bring back the six years you lost.”

“I know.”

She nodded. “Then make sure you remember what else tonight is about.”

My attention shifted toward the hallway, and immediately I thought about Lakelyn and Kaidence.

My family.

They were the reason I had waited, the reason I hadn’t spent the last six years wasting whatever power I had trying to destroy every mothafucka who crossed my path.
