“Caspian! Your ex!” he revealed, his face twisted. “Well, I’m your ex. But you get what I’m saying! Kaidence’s daddy!”

I nodded. “That’s me.”

“Shut up!” Yonas snapped.

To everyone watching, he looked crazy, carrying on a one-sided conversation.

Lakelyn and Willow exchanged shocked expressions, both of their eyes widening as if they were silently asking each other whether that nigga had officially lost his mind.

Lakelyn took a few steps down calmly. “Okay, Yonas. I know you’re going through a lot, and being in this house that belongs to Kaidence’s dad may be a bit much for you, but I need you to calm down.”

“Calm down?!” he retorted in an uproar. “That nigga has been fuckin’ with me all damn day!”

Willow pressed her lips together, and I knew that expression.

That girl was trying not to laugh.

Lakelyn came down a few more steps. “All day? What are you talking about?”

“Well, let’s see! The nigga started out by fuckin’ with my clothes, folding shit, moving my shoes around. He had my damn suitcase halfway packed like some invisible-ass bellhop trying to check me out early—”

“And your dumb ass still stayed,” I cut in. “Don’t leave that part out. I practically packed for you and you still ain’t catch the hint.”

Yonas whipped his head in my direction before launching into the entire story at once. By the time he got to the TV coming on by itself and my picture showing up on a screen that wasn’t even plugged in, he was talking so fast Lakelyn could barely get a word in.

“And then this nigga woke me up talking in my damn ear, made me come out in the hallway, popped up out of nowhere, disappeared, reappeared, started floating and all kind of shit!” Yonas pointed toward me again. “And he’s been standing right there talking shit ever since!”

Willow’s lips disappeared between her teeth.

Lakelyn gave her a warning look. “Don’t.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You don’t have to. Your face is loud.”

Yonas started farther down the stairs, looking more offended every time neither one of them reacted with the level of terror he clearly felt was appropriate.

“And he said you’re his woman!”

I smiled. “Because she is.”

Yonas spun toward me. “Stop fuckin’ talking!” But to them, it looked like the nigga was having a shouting match with the wall.

Lakelyn followed him down the stairs. “Yonas, baby, listen to me—”

I frowned.

Baby?

Yonas looked toward me and immediately raised both hands. “I didn’t tell her to fuckin’ say that!”

“Better fucking not,” I replied.

Lakelyn stopped. “What?”

“Nothing!” He shook his head.

Willow covered her mouth, but by the time they reached the bottom of the stairs, Yonas looked damn near ready to cry.
